Hello Anita. Part of the problem with implementing this search (and I've been attempting it :laptop: believe me) is that the newest version of the phpBB search page isn't generally "set up" to function from the front index page. It took several days to get something reasonably close in the Beta area, and that still wasn't working when we went live last weekend. It's probably number one on my "to do" list, in between anything else that comes up. Fortunately, the go-live was relatively clean, and I'm happy we're up and running with the new software with as few issues as we've seen. Allow some time (think months) and I hope to get it back, eventually.

Thanks for the info, Caith.
Was it set up that way in the past? It sounds like they took something that wasn't broken and they "fixed" it.
The new upgrade seems to be hitting on all cylinders, as far as I can see. I'm sure you and SilverLady have put in some extra hours to make that happen.

I still get amused at the British spelling that's part of phpBB--"favourites", and at one place, "colour.' On the old forum, "Favorites" was spelled American on the selection panel, but British when you actually went to the page.

When you perform a complete overhaul and re-write as they did, lots of things change drastically in the process. The search function is one of those things. This was one of the most requested MODs in the 2.0.x version of phpBB, because the login dates and search logic didn't work as well as everyone liked. There have been many requests for it since 3.0.x came out, simply because people liked it so much. Well, at least they fixed the View new posts functionality, and this is one of the main reasons they're not big on implementing the old 2.0.x-style MOD all over again.

I'm as much a member and user of the forum as everyone else, and I can appreciate being able to search all forums back a certain number of days. It's a logical request, and I think this feature should be available. Unfortunately, I'd wager as soon as I get it working, they'll release the 3.1.x or 4.0.x version of the forum software.

Is there a setting for opening hyperlinks in a new tab/window?

None of which I'm aware. This is usually a browser feature, when you right-click on a link. I'm strictly a Mozilla Firefox user, so I can't really tell you about Internet Explorer or Opera or even Chrome.

It's right click in internet explorer as well. Of course, before the upgrade the hyperlinks would automatically open in new window and the photo-gallery wouldn't.

I use firefox, and the right click method already, thanks. In a couple of other non phpBB forums, just clicking on the link opens in a new window. Just wondered.

Hi Caith--
Kimberly sent out a private message to Donna, Leeza, and myself. I got an email notifying me of the PM, but there was no indicator when I came to the site--it still said, "0 new messages."

Did anyone else get the email, and not the on-site notification?

Indicator of PM was made, no notification via email of the PM, however.

Donna, thank you VERY MUCH  for finding that article and posting the link here. I've just completed applying these code changes, so URLs/links in posts after this point should open in new tabs/windows by default. Older posts will remain unchanged.

Hi, Caith -

I've been noticing that the names in the "Who's Chatting?" section (bottom of Board Index) are not underlined or separated by commas, whereas they are in the "Who is online" section - and unless I'm mistaken, they used to be in the old version.

My eyes just aren't the same any more - an annoying fact of getting older :sigh: - so the names seem to run together . . . is this something that you can fix fairly easily? [-o< I'm sure that I'm not the only one who would appreciate this!

Thank you in advance, girlfriend!!

I believe I've corrected this minor formatting issue. There should now be a comma and two spaces after each chat user's name in that list. If it's not fixed, please drop me a PM. Thanks!

NOTE: The forum was upgraded 24 Mar 2012 and there have been no new upgrade-related issues reported in almost 1.5 months, and I think it's safe to say that any 'bugs' have been worked out; accordingly, this topic was locked today on 15 Jun 2012.

Again, I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful Software Administrator, Caith, for the hundreds of hours that she devoted (and volunteered) towards the successful upgrades needed for the forum, and the headaches she suffered when things didn't go as originally planned (but which were overcome)! A round of applause also goes out to all of our Moderators who were part of the beta-testing before we went 'live'. =D> =D> =D>
