Under Texas law, Witherspoon must have acted "intentionally or knowingly for a lewd or unlawful purpose" to be cited with disorderly conduct.
Accordingly, she shouldn't have been ticketed.
Dallas city nondiscrimination ordinance doesn’t apply. That law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in public accommodations throughout the city. However, the law has an exemption for other governmental entities. Parkland hospital is exempt from the city policy because it is administered by the county.
Hey be nice. If you look around the country you will find that stupidity lurks every where. There are a lot of great CD folk here in the Lone Star State.
I live here in Dallas, TX and the LGBT community is all over this issue. Gear is a program of the Resource Center and has taken the lead in resolving this issue and another issue involving a local well known Hotel and Bar. The issue at the Hotel and Bar was the Bouncers blocked access to the Women's restroom to some TG patrons. Gear is working on both issues.
Just about every place with a restroom here in Maryland discriminates public use of restrooms for cd/tg except for establishments for the homosexual community. As far as this country has progressed, it still has some old fashioned ideas. Hopefully everyone will wake up and accept everyone.
