London 2012 organisers have reportedly inquired about The Who drummer Keith Moon's availability to perform at the Games

If they could pull that off they'd have the most memorable Olympics for sure.

It is sooo reassuring to know that these people have been allocated Millions of pounds of tax payers money to make this a success! Sounds like they've really got their finger on the pulse! Hey - I wonder if Nelson could do an opening speech?

I'm not a fan of our local olympic organisers, well not since they asked me to put in about 50 hours work for the opening ceremony, without pay! Local musicians are being exploited mercilessly, however there are an enormous number of stories going round that are simply not true, I suspect that this is one of them.

This is the bane of the lower-level performer. As a popular local clown & juggler I had hundreds of requests for free performances. After the first year I only did pro bono for non-profits I'd give to anyway.

Ask what other services are being donated: catering? music? lighting? venue? advertising? janitorial? other entertainers? Ask if their board of directors will authorize a tax receipt for contribution for services in the amount I usually charge, which is $200/hr, 1 hour minimum, 10% less for each additional hour up to 5, and $50 per diem if the venue is more than 100 miles away? (That pays for the hours of practice (7,000 to become competent, according to Malcolm Gladwell), the costumes and the props, rehearsal space, and the time between gigs.

I try to be kind and polite because they only ask if you've been recommend.

You're right this is a perennial problem for all of us at the lower end of the entertainment professions, for some reason there is the attitude that we will do this for love and don't need any money ~ "after all it's not proper work is it."
