Yea they are going to let it go instead of doing it's maitance that make last for several more years. Instead we (as the pres says) should be heading back to moon and even on to mars. (yea right) I think it would cost little less to give a hubble a couple more years instead of going back to moon for which I have no idea why we need to go again as we have visited and found that there is no cheese there so why go back.

In all fairness, a Hubble replacement is in the works . . . but we have no idea if it will actually get launched, let alone become operational in orbit. Even if it does become a reality, there will be a multi-year gap where we will have nothing operational -- and if something spectactuar hapens in the heavens, we'll miss it (remember the comet that hit Jupiter?)
I think this is stupid science -- even elementary kids would see the value of keeping the Hubble operational until the new one is ready to take over.

Though I should just walk away (I've got responsibilities I am ignoring - in order to browse the forum today), this one is too close to home.
My dad really was "a rocket scientist", for NASA. He fumed for years over extravagant waste of money on the manned space program (though we both had fun watching Apollo 13 launch - in person) . He said that for a tiny fraction of the manned program costs, we could learn so much more from robotic probes. How right he was.
Bush may be right on the second amendment, but he has been such a big disappointment in so many other ways.
Paul Harvey (commentator on ABC) is developig a reputation for the most outlandishly exaggerated claims when he advertises. His claim for one product goes something like this: No matter what is broken, all you have to do is go buy a tube of J B Weld!
Maybe NASA should buy a tube of JB Weld? When it does't work, they could sue Paul Harvey? He could afford to fund the Hubble program!
Hugs,
Bernice
