Wish Me Luck!!! I'll need it.

Post by Lorna »

After hearing about the deaths of two people my age from heart attacks, I have made a more conscious effort to take better care of myself. In addition to eating healthier and getting more exercise, I have also decided to put a 14 year smoking habit to rest once and for all.

The eating healthier part I have handled no problem. The quitting of the smoking will be a LOT trickier.

It is NOT going to be easy, but it's time to quit. I also have many reasons to do so!

- Cigarettes are expensive
- They stink up your clothes, your car, and your wig
- None of my friends smoke
- You can't smoke indoors anywhere anyway!

Wish me luck, girls... :?

Lorna,

I'm praying that you are able to keep it up. I wouldn't want any member of our community to suffer from the possible affects smoking can bring. I know smoking can be fun, but I'd rather see you here a lot longer.

I wish you luck as always, Lorna. Luck usually isn't enough, though. A few smokers quit and stay quit the first time; but I think the majority quit, restart in a moment of weakness, quit again (with more difficulty), fall off the wagon, etc. What you need more than luck is long-term resolve: if time and again you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and continue towards your goal, you'll ultimately achieve it. My general impression of you is that you don't give up easily; so I suspect you have the necessary resolve. However, on the off chance you might lack it, I wish you that as well. :)

Yours,
Celia

Hi Lorna,

I wish you the best of luck, Add one thing to your list. According to the doctors, smoking was what took my wife's life. That seems like a good reason to stop.

The trick is to really want to stop. If you do, you can. I'm rootin' for you, girl.

Lorna,

Quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I did, but I'm glad I did it after one previous failure.

The first time I quit for a couple of months at the encouragement of my then girlfriend. I started again after we broke up because she wanted to take LSD.

The second time, when I quit for good 12 years after starting was when my father asked me to. He smoked for 50 years and it got him. He worked until age 65 and 1/2 and didn't make it to 67. It was tough, but through faith and determination, I managed to quit cold turkey. That was almost 25 years ago.

Stay with it, Lorna. Don't give up - after a while it will get easier. I smoked in my dreams for about a year, but even that finally stopped.

You are not alone.

QUIT

Post by Virginia »

Lorna:
Kirk Douglas tells a story about his father quitting smoking. He started carrying one cig arround with him and everytime he had the urge he would pull the cig out look at it and say," Who;s stronger, you or me??- I am stronger." and put it back in his pocket. He said it workded.
Good luck,
Deborah

My ex-girlfriend did it the same way. :)

She carried a cigarette around with her. She smoked for 14 years and quit cold turkey. =D>

Lorna,

Best of luck!! =D>

I too have the bad smoking habit ( yes, it's not such an easy one to break) I have tried several times, so please let me know when you do, how you did it, what worked for you. My uncle would tell me "Your bigger and stronger than those cigarettes, don't let them win"

I was able to stop bitting my finger nails after doing so since I could remember, it's been 5 months since I stopped now. I now have long beautiful nails and I keep them polished at all times, my goodness they are alot of work, much easier to just bite them off.

So now, smoking is my next vise to work on as well. #-o
