Underwire Bras
I have pretty much worn underwire bras since I "needed" a bra. I began when I was barely a 36A and have continued forth and am now a 36C or D depending on the bra. My question is why is it that most women complain about underwire bras yet when I go shopping for a bra I see probably 10 or more underwire bras to each soft cup?

Re: Underwire Bras
As the attention seeker I no doubt am, I like the grooves and indentations that underwires (and straps for that matter) leave on my chest and back. Especially nice when off for a swim or using a public shower

Re: Underwire Bras
I must admit to finding underwired bra's far more uncomfortable than soft cups. That said - as with the vast majority of women, I haven't had a proper fitting and so I am open to the idea that its probably down to not quite getting the right bra. I do have a number of soft cup bra's that fit like a dream and so hence my bias.
The other thing that puts me off about underwired bra's is their potential for damaging breast forms. I have heard a number of people describing the demise of much cherished forms in this way!
On balance - I guess I'd say that the best type of bra is the one that fits you perfectly - and for that you'd best get a fitting (I'm still working up to that!).

Re: Underwire Bras
For me I only have 1-non underwired bra, I find the underwired bra's comfortable to wear and keep my forms in place without moving around as in a soft non underwired one.
The main thing is to try to find the right size and fit, when I first started buying bra's looking at the size measuring tables is so confusing. I just wonder who in their right mind came up with the formula to decide what size bra you should be wearing.
According to my measurment 34.5" and calculations I should be wearing a band size 38 with a cup size C If I put on one that size I just find it just looks wrong so these days I have a bra 34C and it just fits like a glove so to speak.

Re: Underwire Bras
Well girls back to the basic
,
Believe it or not as scarey as it sounds you would be surprise how easy a bra fitting is. I went to the Playtex outlet mall and ask and the women didn't even bat an eyelash all she said " was this way please".
Take off your shirt and did you bring your forms, yes but I would like to get bras also without my forms, and I did.
Trust Carol Ann, been there done it and it is so easy. Ladies it's all in your head, my wife liked to die when she seen the bill

Carol Ann, she sounds as though she had had some experience of working with CDs. Encouraging.
Was this a local store or out of area? I don't think I could go local, but out of town is increasingly a more attractive and likely option.

Re: Underwire Bras
I have quite a few of each. Although I started out buying only soft cup bras, lately I buy mostly the underwire because it's really hard to find cute softcup bras in 38B with matching panties. In fact, practically impossible.
I do think that the soft cup are more comfortable, but the underwire with some push-up give a lot nicer shape. I've only had a problem with the wire poking through in maybe one, so I wouldn't say it's a big issue (except it was a $50 bra and really cute and I wouldn't have cared if it were a $10 bra) and all in all I think the advantages outweigh the small discomfort.
I will still wear my padded underwire 38B's just because I think I look much nicer with them.

Re: Underwire Bras
I used to be able to wear padded underwired 38B bras, but for some reason I seem to have grow into a 40B!!! Odd to be growing at 60+!!! Underwires seem to provide a good shape. Never tried a non underwired bra. Maybe I'll give them a go next time. I'm sure non underwired, non padded bras are easier to hide under your clothing...

Re: Underwire Bras
I haven't found that underwires show any more under clothes than non wired. The main issue in concealment is non padded/non moulded cups and ensuring a good band fit. Obviously go for a skin tone bra under a light shirt (likely to still be visible) but less noticeable.
