I don't think girdles are worn all that often these days, so I've never owned more than one or two over the years. I've never figured out how to buy the proper size. I wear a size 10 panty, and size 24 jeans. What's my girdle size? When I look at sizing charts I'm lost, and I'd guess that sizes for each site are different anyway. Since a girdle takes a a commitment (it's the most difficult thing to take down in a public restroom) you'll be wearing it all day, and it better fit fight!

Re: Relation of panty size to girdle size
I don't know anything about girdles, I don't have one and have never worn one.
Mostly I think they have been displaced by other, and more convenient shapeware.
I have a variety of other shapeware and the sizing issue seems to relate mostly to what it is shaping. For my butt I usually wear small or medium, since I have not much butt. Around my chest I need large. What I really need shaping for though is my waist, which is medium. So if I'm wearing just the wasit cincher then it's medium, but if it's more of a body shaper then it depends on whether it fits mosty around my chest or mostly around my butt. I prefer just the wasit cincher, but the ones I have set off the metal detectors at the airport, which is inconvenient.

Re: Relation of panty size to girdle size
I have a Rago 6201 Size 42 (6x) and wear size 20w Jeans and Size 9 panties. But hate the zipper on the left side (Plates on 7 screws in wrist). I wish it was one size bigger, but it does the job when I want to be trim looking. Not something I can wear everyday for all day.
For you measure your waist. I would get 8x for you. Or size 46.

I recommend some spanx if you just want to look a little better. I have a pair of Power Panties Size G.

One of the best I have is Serenada® Body Briefer. I wear size 46 and I would recommend size 48. GO in and try it on. (Catherine's)
The one I want oneday....

Re: Relation of panty size to girdle size
I routinely wear girdles and will note Mabel Kinchen's 1963 dictum in Clothing for Moderns: "Every girl, even a slender one, needs a girdle, not to compress, but to smooth the figure". She also considered a panty girdle required under slacks. I have seen no consistent size correlation between panties and girdles but the current crop seem to equate size 7 with "L", so 10 should be 3X I would think. I have both traditional/vintage girdles which go by waist or hip size depending on the manufacturer, and the new lycra/spandex pull-on panty girdles which go by the s/m/l/1x/2x/3x/4x/ sizing. I use the former with stockings and the latter over panty hose. Side zips and all-in-ones usually have a convenience panel at the crotch or are Open Bottom. When necessary I snip out the crotch of a pair of panty hose, roll the cut edges and stitch them against runners. I frequently turn panty hose into stockings in a similar fashion, and recommend using the smallest stitches your machine will manage to make while manually pre-stretching the hose material.
I find Delta Burke is a good brand for large sized lightweight girdles.

Re: Relation of panty size to girdle size
I don't care for male girdles because of the smooth front I want to present. No bulge. I've had a fair amout of luck with recent manufacturers by sizing down 2 inches in the waist. I'm a 38 and 36 seems to work. I've had problems with vintage dirdles as there is a 10 inch difference between a woman's waist and her hips. This causes a loose fit in the thigh area. Yes wearing a girdles and panty hose produces a problem in a restroom. Consider adding panties as I do. I underdressed that way for years.
I believe I was a lesbian in my past life

Re: Relation of panty size to girdle size
As I have been away for quite some time, I offer my 2 cents worth.
With regard to the issue of panty size in relation to girdle size. I offer the following: when I drwss, I alway wear a girdle...a real girdle not the lightweight Spanx or their equilivant.
My shapewear, using the present day terminology, has been assembled over the years mostly by trial and error...what fits, which one is the most effective f, which one is comfortable after several hours of wear and most importantly, which one will provide the best fit when worn with a specific ensemble...to me this is important, for without the "correct girdle" a good looking outfit can look even better. It was suggested that Rago is a good brand and I agree. I have 8 different Rago styles ranging from the good old reliable 6210, the 6201, the and the 6228 in various colors to the good 1294 oben bottom style that must be worn with stockings to keep it anchored. I too also wear VaBien 3757 and the brief equilivant worn over panty hose and shorts in the summer. I also wear the old Poirette 5780 high waist long leg panty style made from tweave material...extremely controlling yet is light weight and very easy to wear all day.
If one searches the auctions, ebay and others, many older styles can be found. I recently aquired 2 playtex 18 hour high waist long leg styles...one brand new, the other lightly worn. If one has never tried a playtex 18 hour style, you owe it to try and find one in the correct size. The control (read firm) is wonderful, a little tight when putting it on but extremely confortable even after the proverbable 18 hours. The playtex I can;t believe, its a girdle girdle is another great girdle...light weight but really firm and very easy to wear.
As I have a muffin top and poochie tummy, I need all the help I can get and over the years, I have foud that a good girdle and a longline bra will work wonders for the figure.
As far as relating panty size to girdle size, is like comparing apples and oranges, both fruit, but different. Most panty sizes relate to hip sizes while most real girdles go by waist measurement and state fits hips 8-10" larger than the waist. there are full hip girdles and those are sized fits hips 11-14" larger than the waist. Personally I wear a size panty and my preference is Bali Skimp Scamp. My girdle size is usually a 6x (size 42) but it sometimes a 5x just feels better.
My biggest complaint about girdle wearing is at the end of the dressing session. After having worn a firm controlling girdle (and longline bra) all day, I personally feel really soft and flabby when getting undressed. perhaps this feeling is just me.
Sorry for the rambling..you asked for the time and I told you how to build a watch. Is wearing a girdle essential...no. But the results one can achieve can be spectacular...and your outfits can look so much better and you will feel so much better...like a lady.
If anyone wants to discuss further or has any comments, please send me a private message and I will promptly get back to you.
Cheers,
Bobbie R.
