losing 'Mr' or 'Mrs'
I wondered if anyone has seen this...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ds-newsxml
They're planning on removing 'Mr' or 'Mrs' from titles and mails, so as not to genderfy lol. Ok, I have to be honest, I'd love to lose the title myself, or at least add an 'S' to it anyway. Seeing the title these days is like looking in a mirror at the worst time of the day hahahaha...
But then on the other hand, is removing it for all in a fanfare, really the right thing to do here? It could just be a can of worms for the sake of it IMO, why not let people silently drop it if they so desired?...

Re: losing 'Mr' or 'Mrs'
Why should the titles offend any one because - I'm not - but if I were working and presentning as a female I would love to use the title of Miss, or Mrs, or MS. It is part of the thrill of being able to be feminine if I choose. To take that away would be a bummer.

Amanda I agree. I do not understand why having a title is offensive. If it is the wrong one then change it. If you can not change it to the one you want that is a different story.Amanda M wrote:Political correctness gone mad, IMHO!
Some people need to get a life and quit being offended by petty things. And others need quite worry about offending others and saying the wrong thing. If you say the wrong thing correct yourself and move on.

Good grief! If the people to whom this is important had to hunt for and catch and kill their own food (for example) this sort of thing would pale into insignificance! Time they realised this!

Wowsers.
To be honest i'm just a wee bit surprised about the responses here.
Whilst i understand the craziness of too much political correctness, i think the best way to move toward a future where we are free to be who we are, is to move away from the gender binary.
Titles serve a purpose in the professional ranks......such as Dr. or in the military perhaps, but why does the whole friggin world need to be labeled as a man or woman in normal everyday communication.
I think a full name is quite as adequate and polite or professional.

Cassandra, if we get rid of Mr and Mrs what is next? Sir, Ma am, He, She, .... ????
To me is sounds like they are trying to avoid how to address people with their documents. Let the person decide and if it is wrong let them correct it. In the article it says "in case they offend the transgender community". I still do not know why it would offend someone unless it was wrong. But but if they would let the person filling out the for choose what to use, which I am sure the way it is, and if it is easy to correct if it is wrong I do not see what the issues is.

Re: losing 'Mr' or 'Mrs'
I took it as that correspondence was being sent out to folks with titles attached unasked or guessed?
That titles get used at all times whether wanted or not?
Since it is England perhaps our dear Karin or others can enlighten us here, are titles used at all times?
But i agree Kimberly, if one wants to be addressed unoffically then they should be.
But my point does stand, we are bombarded from youth with gender, and i think it is high time we move away from it.

Oh heck, * adjusts the pink cammo helmet again
I'm no expert, but my understanding is this. All council mailings are generated from the electoral payroll. That is the list of all adults and where they live as recognized legally. This article refers to removing the titles from EVERYBODIES mail, not just a selected few.
Of course there may be those who for whatever reson would Love to not have DUDE plastered across their mail, but the option of dropping it for me is not there because unless I deed poll myself, the state sees me as just that. Councils usually go with the official title only.
So I have a choice. Put up with it or go the whole distance. I might just do that lol. Despite this, I do think tho that when we do have to 'upset' the normies, we should only do it over the major issues. Don't waste our precious bullets as it were? A better way would be for the councils to permit deviations between their mailing lists and the electoral lists, then I could just add an S or lose the existing one.

Re: losing 'Mr' or 'Mrs'
Thanx for that m'dearest.
I spose my issues are aimed more towards the whole notion of assigning and reinforcing gender from an early age and not so much at something like this.
Frankly it would be a struggle for something like this to really take hold and affect the kind of change i seek anyways.
I also would love to pick up an application for work or something as such and be asked what my sex is rather than my gender.
I feel okay making the distinction that i was born male but my gender is most definitely not male.

Re: losing 'Mr' or 'Mrs'
Not an intelligent question by DB, is it. You address letters using the persons name and address.Dawn Barrett, Conservative councillor for Hangleton and Knoll, said: 'It's completely ludicrous and shows a complete lack of respect.
'How are they going to address letters properly? This is just political correctness gone too far.'
Mr., Mrs. Miss, and Ms. are not part of their name, nor are they honorary titles, such a Dr.
A letter to D. Barrett does not improperly call D. Mr, if D. is a Mrs, according to the change in policy.
If a trans person changes their name, or prefers the use of an initial, then they won't want to be improperly addressed.
Sure, they could request Council change things, but as many in the UK know, such/similar requests aren't followed up on with much efficiency. It would be more efficient to just not use a made-up title.

I agree with Dawn Barrett: it is ludicrous, shows a complete lack of respect, and is political correctness gone way too far; it also proves the degradation of society.
In actuality, it smacks of Socialism ('everyone is equal, we're all the same'), but what else did you expect from liberals??

Re: losing 'Mr' or 'Mrs'
I can't help myself from also wondering just how much this little exercise is costing out of the tax pockets too..
I'm going to try a little experiment here, just so you don't have to hahaha. Every year we have to sign a declaration of all adults living in the household and correct names etc. This list then goes on to form the electoral list for voting rights etc, and then is also used by the council for the tax collections etc. After all, the mailings they are referring to are only the council tax which is the uk equivalent to property tax. They also sell this information into marketing companies so it may very well have a wider effect. Anyway when my tax restarts in march, I'm going to request they drop my title. They will most likely say no, but I doubt it'll be a costly affair if they do, and I bet the neighbors get to keep their titles regardless. Simples!
Failing that what's a deed poll cost these days? Thirty pounds..I checked
Hey SL?!? We got matching hats!

*Cue the dramatic music maestro
Scene set
.........Cass crawls thru the smoky acidic stench of sulfer from the explosives........sighs and says "Gawd i love the scent of dissent"
But what is more socialistic than affixing a sex qualifier to each individual.
You are man.....you are woman......you are married.....you are not......
If you don't like it well then complain enough and maybe, we might, someday, change it for you. In the meantime, take your 'number' and go away so we can take care of the normal people.
Funny how political correctness gets cozied up with liberalism, and moral values (yeah yeah, i'm goin there!) are conservative in nature.
Cass struggles off to the medics tent to have her wounds stiched up......
I really don't see the problem, like Donna said what's wrong with john and jane dough, why attach more to it than that? I've grown accustomed to identifying as a person, do we really need to gender identify every step of the way thru life?
