Plucking eyebrows

Post by Emma-A »

I had a go at plucking my eyebrows last weekend. They are not overly bushy but I felt they needed to be shaped a little bit better. I had success, and the pain was tolerable but it had a very strange effect on me.

First my nose would get a bit runny, then I would sneeze incessantly, and if I continued I would feel feverish and my forehead would sweat. It really felt like I had a fever, only that I would return to normal just a few minutes after I stopped plucking.

Is this normal, or am I unusually sensitive? Is there perhaps some way to ease this problem in future?

thanks,
Em

interestink Emma...

um you sure it was your brows and not your nose you twanged? ..rofl..

Ive been doing mine lately too and can honestly say i never had that happen. i trimmed with scissors first cos that makes a whole different shape on its own, and then pull one line at a time in the direction of the hair. i can hardly feel it and its waaay too addictive :) I've not been busted yet tho!

I've been plucking and shaping for a little less than a year now Emma, and fear not it gets easier and easier.

Every once in awhile i get one that is a bigger, stronger hair and the roots go deeper, so it'll sting more, but that's not common. I've felt the super sharp stinging sensation that causes the eyes to water when i first started but not lately.

I went at it slowly to try and be sneaky, i think it kinda worked but then i also went way overboard too (nasty pink fog).

Mine are now so thin that i can't go any further. I just am tending the garden now, weeding as needed.
And some of those pesky little devils, sneak thru the skin overnight. #-o

I do get some looks at times and one or two comments but for the most part it's easy smeasy.

Just like the earrings, i couldn't imagine going without.

yeppers Emma, you're normal. I think eyebrows are connected to that spot under your nose :) (not really) Your body was just reacting to the pain. My eyebrows were my most sensitive spot on my face until I got the hairs tamed.

Plucking does cause a reaction similar to a burn and so, you can consider putting a little ice on your brows after to reduce the redness sooner and to make them feel a little better. If you stay close to the same area as you do your plucking, the nerves will naturally desensitize themselves too. So as you pluck an area, don't be hopping around all over to pluck thinking it will lessen the anguish--stay close.

Now as you're shaping, just deal with the wild strays that got away from the herd. Eyebrows run in trends ranging from really thin to full and bushy (but managed). I'm not sure how one defines the arch, but I'm sure one of the cosmetic companies that sell eyebrow pencils will have a method.

It reminds me of what happened when I started applying makeup. I had always resisted that in my CDing. I found I would salivate an awful lot and my face would get hot. The salivating I noticed first because I did it so intensely I would find it running out of the corner of my mouth and ruining my foundation. I decided I was basically fighting turning myself into a woman with it - and found that if I concentrated hard I could (generally) stop myself doing it. After a while (I mean a couple of months) the problem seemed to go away. Sometimes I've found my nose would run with similar effect (but that hasn't been as much as a problem)

My face gets hot when I apply foundation (once that's on it seems to cool down). I didn't realise the significance of that until I talked to a makeup lady in Boots, but it meant that the foundation wouldn't remain in place. I use a fan (Donna's advice) to get over it.

These are (I think) my internal conflicts about the CDing expressing themselves physically.

I take the easy route (for me) and have my eyebrows waxed at the same time I get an acrylic nail fill, get both done about every two to three weeks. Then I only need to pluck a few strays that pop up between visits, especially those nasty old grey ones that I immediately dispatch!

Strange! You could try a cold compress first.

I have an adverse reaction to cleaning my left ear with a Q-tip. I makes me cough.

I only made a slight change, not anything significant. she hasn't said anything about it.

I have very bushy eyebrows...on several professional makeovers I allowed extensive plucking and shaping. It hurt like hell. I loved the results. But, my youngest daughter noticed, my wife got furious, and I let them grow back. It has been a long time....but I love the shaped look

I've had several women over the years that have asked me if I pluck my eyebrows, guess they looked feminine and shaped and were suspicious.

The interesting part is that I never had plucked  Later while learning to apply eye makeup, I have trimmed the long ones with scissors, still don't know what plucking feels like.

Earlier while wearing shorts I've overheard some subtle low comments "looks like he shaves his legs" - truth is I had very little blond leg hair! Made some of my GFs very jealous. Then one of them got me drunk and shaved my legs to show me "what pain women have to go through"...Turns out that when I slipped into my nylons, I couldn't believe how good my shaved legs felt with nylons on...so she got me hooked - I shave my legs every week for years now. Sorta backfired on her. <>
