I was having a discussion about weight with my wife, and she said that its common for GG to gain weight over the winter months, then lose it in warmer times? She seems quite sure of this, and that its a natural cycle and perfectly healthy. I was wondering if anyone out there had heard of this too? And then it happened..i started to think again
If this actually is a natural phenomena, then would someone whos taking the female hormones, and blocking the male ones also gain weight for winter?
I know its a longshot, but can i really blame my lack of weightloss on turning into a girl??

It's not uncommon for anyone on HRT to experience changes in weight, but as for winter specifically? I tend to doubt it. There are plenty of explanations that have more to do with social pressures than biology. Haven't you ever heard a woman obsessing over getting her weight down so she'll look good in a swimsuit? Bulky clothing can hide gradual weight gains, but spring and summer fashions tend toward making those extra pounds more obvious.

well it quite commonly happens, but it has nothing to do with being a GG, or hormones, or weather. It's all about the holidays and eating and sitting around. Don't you read Elle and Vogue and Cosmo??? There are several months of partying and wearing sweaters and loose bulky clothes and a girl doesn't need to think about what she's eating. Then March comes along and we need to start panicking about how we will look in that bikini. That's what it is.
Hey Karin - as well as all that... there is also a phenomenon that is common amongst pretty much all mammals (male and female) - come winter, storing fat makes survival sense both in terms of insulation and "food reserves" since food tends to get scarce. As an aside - you're not prone to hibernation are you?

Adding a few pounds in colder weather is only natural. Combine that with big holiday meals, baggy clothing,and less activity and it can get away from us quickly.. Don't worry about it too much, it happens to everyone.. Maybe you just never noticed..
Just find a way to stay active indoors, it can have many other benefits.
My Mother was not one to worry about weight or fashions, but she would put on weight in the winter and loose it in the summer. She said the weight came off in the spring and summer when she could get out into the garden.
I normally gain weight during the autumn/winter and lose it in the spring/summer. But this year I lost weight all through the autumn and generally felt like I had too much testosterone, but put a little back on over the past couple of weeks due to poor weather resulting in a lack of physical activity. Maybe the hormones have affected me a bit too. I'm up to 72kg now
I think you should definitely blame it on the weather, after all it is the weather's fault for eating all those donuts! seriously I suspect most of us put some on in the winter due to lack of exercise and a little extra insulation, then in the spring we get more active and eat more salads and less suet puddings........

I agree, these northen climates with the cold weather, shorter days, and several holidays traditionally with tons of food promote weight gain and not just for GG's. I myself usually put on 5 or so and it come back off for the most part as the weather warms up and I get more active outdoors.
I doubt it's more prevalent in one gender Vs. the other, but my guess is typically males don't care as much or can hide it better?
