Epilators; Who has used one?

Post by Carla Michelle »

As the title suggests, I'm looking for any info regarding the use of an epilator. I've already got one on the way and wont have to shave my legs again. *-*

Have any of you used one on your arms? Underarms? Or ..OO.. face?

Any info is greatly appreciated. ^^_||

I tried an epilator once, well a few times realy, but never realy liked it.
i Thought it to be rather slow and rather noisey and just a little uncomfortable. But then again at the time it was just a cheap model.
Maybe the newer machines are less noisey and more comfortable to use? But i kinnda like shaving with a razor so in no hurry to try again with an epilator.

I ordered the Emjoie Soft Caress and it arrived today. I love it. The hair on my legs was mostly grown back out and was long enough for the epilator to get them. It didn't hurt on my legs but on my hand there was more and longer hair the it could grab easier. That hurt a bit more. But I'm used to pain so it was no big deal for me.

For a first time I am impressed. My legs feel great and I am glad I got the corded epilator. It was about $50 and worth it. It is noisy but not too loud.

Ok. I've had 3 days now with my Emjoi Soft Caress epilator. For my legs, I had just shaved the week before it arrived and the hairs had been growing back kind of un-evenly. On the first time doing my legs there wasn't any pain, just a slight tugging sensation and has been the same since. I feel a lot less stubble on them now than when I shave. And I only have the one time shaving my legs in the last 20 yrs, so take that into consideration. And the stubble is from the slow growing hairs and they will be gone when they are long enough.

Arms were a different story. I had not shaved my arms so all the hair was long enough to be plucked out and I felt everyone on my left arm. I could only do a little bit at a time on my left arm and it took me most of a day to get it done. The right, for some reason, was no where near as painful and it got done in one sitting.

I've only just started on my underarms and it isn't nearly as painful I thought it would be. Most of the left is done and I'll do the right soon.

I've read mixed things about using it on your face. Everything I read that said don't was from those that haven't done it. I found a site that tell which ones NOT to use, as they are likely to catch some skin, and which ones to use. I have the kind that is safe to use and will try the face soon. Since I shaved my face yesterday I'll hafta wait until tomorrow morning to report back on facial use.

Overall, I love it. I will use it instead of shaving and if it works as well on my face as elsewhere, I will never buy another razor again. Just think of the savings! More money for shopping! *-*

I have an Emjoi as well, mine being the Soft Caress also (i think that's a 'bit' of an embellishment.......pulling hair out by the roots and soft caress don't go together).

I love mine too and love the results i get with twice weekly sessions, and yes i do my entire body.......well not quite, i do some of the front of my pubic area, but i have the legs arms, pits, and front torso down to about 30 minutes now.

I have read on another site of folks doing their faces, but they have been mostly honest and said it does hurt much much more than anywhere else, and that it will take along time before it can be routine.

Which begs a question for Carol Ann, you do your brows with one?
Is it a miniature model with out the natural curverature i see on most of them? I can't imagine being able to do such delicate work like that with an epilator?
Perhaps your thinking of those little electric shavers?

They do make small pen style epilators, with a small head just for that kind of use.

Hugs Cassandra (--) ,

Yes all I use it for is to shape and trim my eyebrows, It is small runs on a AA battery and is an off beat brand call Finishing Touch but it does the job very well for what I use it far. =D>

I stand corrected, thanx ladies.
Wow cool beans, looks like i'm gonna have to do some shopping around, i'd like something set up a little different then the bigger epilators, to go with what i have.

In fact do any of you have any knowledge of an epilator available that has a flatter head?
The problem with the rounded head is that when i get to a flat spot or concave spot like between the pectoral area is the hair yanker-outters don't do a good job.

there must be some kind of trick to using these. i bought one years ago and used it several times.
each time always the same result it would pull out about 50-70% of the hair and not grab the rest.
no matter the length of the hair short or long it always left a bunch behind.
so i would always have to spend over an hour plucking each hair with a tweezers to finish the job.
and then the dang battery dies when its left sitting for awhile so you have to charge it before you can use it. ended up giving up on epilating.
i shave all the body hair off using a double edge safety razor and i love it. just recently switched to that from the cheap disposables and it is way better and cheaper too.

I got the corded kind. And I've found that I have to go with the grain so to speak. The epilator wants to pull a certain way, just make sure it's pulling the way the hair grows and make several passes. Wait a day or two and then go again. It does miss the really fine hairs, the really short, thin hairs that you can barely even see with out a magnifying glass.

And after having mine for a little while I love it. now if I could just get a volunteer to do my back.

I use mine about 2 times a week. Once you get by the first few times,
it becomes easer and not painful. Occasionally I will shave with my
electric razor in the mornings for a touch up and to get a very smooth
leg I shave with the a womens "Intuition" razor. It has some lubricant or
soap in it so it does a great job of shaving and getting a great finish.

I have a Braun.
I have found it works best for me if I shave before first use.
Then for several days use to get all hairs that popup.a lot
less pain because you are not pulling all at once.
When finished exfoliate and use a Moisturize
Soon you wil have smooth soft hair free legs
