Re: Happy 4th to all
Wishing all a safe and happy Fourth. My neighborhood's shooting off fireworks right now
I wouldn't worry too much about controversy, the folks at Lexington didn't. Anyway, the Brits can have their party come the 5th. of November.

Re: Happy 4th to all
I believe the sons and daughters of Albion, when they bother to notice, think of it as "Good Riddance Day." In Alberta it's after the Calgary Stampede, so nobody much cares what us 'Merkins are up to. And if we get too noisy they can always burn our White House down again.
Around here it was relatively quiet. In the last week we've been awakened most days with M60 firecrackers in well-used burn barrels. Makes a boom like dynamite (supposed to be equal to a quarter stick, but the barrel amplifies it) and raises a small mushroom cloud of ash. Big whee, but tolerated in these rural parts of Louisiana.
A nice buffet dinner with the sisters and the cousins and the uncles and the aunts, and then home to our cozy nest where one of the neighbors was testing his M16 and two mildly modified magazines (hold about 30-rounds each). Perhaps he'll burn out his barrel soon, one hopes.
Back in Portland I'd stand in the middle of the street and do my bullwhip routine (overhand, circus, side, repeat, self-wrap, repeat). But here, nobody would notice. And anyway I no longer have my 16' kangaroo bullwhip, only two 6' snake whips I made myself.
