Bra fittings

Post by Trudy »

Another forum I belong to has had several girls coming out about having bra fittings. As a regular wearer of Soma bras and shopping in their stores I generally have a fitting once a year. How many f you have had a bra fitting?

I've never done that either..

But my wife has helped me a lot in the early days, I probably would've needed a fitting if she hadn't!

I have never been fitted either, I don't usually wear a bra, mostly I wear a shirt/blouse tied up in front, feels more natural to me..

On more than one occasion, I've read that most women are wearing the wrong type or size bra. We are all familiar with catalog size charts, measure the chest for band width and then across the breast. The difference is your cup size. Easy, right? For a GG, what if you're wearing an ill fitting bra when measuring? For either gender, exhaling to measure the band width does not make you smaller, it does result in buying a bra that's too tight. And holding your breath for the cup size does not increase the boobies.
I've never had a fitting my entire life until recently. I tend to buy what I'm familiar with and when on sale, same basic style and size. Helping the hubby with my so called expertise, becoming more bra aware, and more frequent backaches, I decided to do a professional fitting. Having another woman get that friendly with my girls is nearly like a doctor visit in intimacy. It must be scary for a CD to go for a fitting, no wonder so few do so.
A proper fitting bra feels so much better.

I have been fitted at both "Soma" and "Lane Bryant" Not only does it insure you get the right size but it immediately makes you a friend that is aware you of your dressing. Gives me a thrill to be sharing..

Growing up wit 3 older sisters all who were "blessed" as Mom used to put it I saw them go regularly for bra fittings as they grew. Now as a gurl with a larger bust I know how important a properly fitted bra is for both support and comfort. :) I know many women who have relied on the catalog method Eileen describes and she is right, how can you get a proper measurement with an improperly fitted bra? ](*,) I would whole heartedly urge all of you, T and GG's alike, to go get fitted if you haven't in the past year. A bra should not be a chore or uncomfortable but rather just another foundation to a prettier you! O:)

I will admit to being one of the embarrassed ones. I'm reluctant to go in for a fitting because I'm afraid of the results. I think they would say something like "well you don't have anything to measure, you would be a 38nothing." I know they really won't say that, but I'm sure they will be thinking it.

I have been twice for a bra fitting, once about 5 years ago when I realized that the hormones had finally had an effect and was told I was a 36A. I know not very big at all, although I generally only wore a 36B when I used forms, but I was so happy I cried right there in the fitting room! =D> The second time was right after the 1st of the year, I was shopping at my local Macy's and they were having a fit event so I figured what the heck. I am still a 36A but the fitter did tell me for a "woman" my age ( I was 59 at the time) it was remarkable how "perky" my breasts still are. *-* I wonder if she knew? :)

Never beeing fitted.
A “good” fitter can do a perfect job , but the problem stay of different brands having different ideas of size. So a 35 C great fitting is just that. Even a same brand other type can fit horrible.
Remember also that Gurl breast are farther spaced, so not all types of bra are suitable.
The eye sees faithfully, but our brain's image processor lies.

I had a bra fitting last yesr because I was buying breast forms. The very kind young lady (SA) measured me and suggested a bra as well as the breast size. I tried both and they fittted so well that I kept them on when I left the shop and drove home. I was in male dress.
Hugs to you all.

I cant believe that 60% of you havent had a bra fitting
you must be buying and buying trying to get the right fit
with the right bra
I suggest you bring your forms to an outlet store (maidenform,
Hanes Bali) and start looking at bras. An SA will generally
ask if you need help. Suck it up and tell her you are looking
for a bra that will fit and hold your forms and not ride up
or get the correct cup size, etc.
If you are heavy and need a larger than average size Lane
Bryant is great.. They will bend over backwards to help you.
Have fun

I will take Janet Bern's suggestion to heart, get brave, and go into the store with my forms and COURAGE! No more buying without trying.
