Eyeliner question
I have tried the hard pencils, the tiny little eyeliner brush, then this friend showed me the Cover Girl Perfectpoint Plus which is kind of like a felt tip pen. I have always had difficulty. She did show me how to pull laterally on the upper eyelid to straighten it out and told me to apply it just on top of the lash line, then on the edge of the lower lid atop the lower lashes. The line is not very dark though it looks kind of like a faded black line. last time my friend was here (my wife's sitter) she looked at my application and told me it was right but seems it should be as black as the mascara. Not having been brought us in the secret circle where women pass this information only to each other...I wonder if I am doing it right? I can always pick her brain next time. She has been very helpful teaching me about eye shadow application and the use of different shades, and blending them - light on the brow bone below the eyebrow, then a medium color over the upper lid, and some dark shading laterally toward the outer part of the lid below the brow bone. I am trying my best not to overdo any of this because I believe in using the minimum amount necessary for effect, well of course I do darken the upper lashes.

Re: Eyeliner question
One time a few years ago I went to a salon where they really specialize in giving one a professional "do". It's the sort of place women make an appointment at before a special occasion like a wedding.
So these people really know what they are doing, and one of the ladies gave me instruction on the whole matter. It was immensely helpful, and I'm confident that she taught me the right way. I'm not so sure women in general always know the right way to do makeup, in the same way that most little league coaches only think they know something about baseball.
I ought to go back occasionally for refresher classes, but it's in Pennsylvania and I'm now in Montana. Anyway, if you can find a place like that near you, I highly recommend it. First of all you are getting the best information available, and also you don't feel like you are imposing on someone who might not be all that enthusiastic about helping.

Re: Eyeliner question
I saw a commercial the other day for a new eye liner so I went to sephora and asked about it got a demo and explanation. Then went to Ulta to check their price. I just might get it. It to is kind oa like a felt tip but more like a marker with a flat angled tip so you can change the width of the line by how you turn the angle.
I tried eye liner decades ago and gave up on that older technology. I use a powder liner now but it really neve makes a crisp sharp line. I'll probably be trying liner soon. I dont think of liner being day wear though says the lady with the uniquely colored hair styles......

Re: Eyeliner question
That's similar kind of a felt tip with a flat tip, must be similar, I am so glad the sitter is so accepting I am learning from her, she wears eye liner every day.
Oh! And I take your point about a professional, yes I agree, the sitter though is absolutely open, accepting and very reassuring there is no hesitation she is very willing to help, has told me she has a couple gay people in her family, she knows that I am not she is just very accepting of people and people who are different, she is kind of a renegade herself.

Re: Eyeliner question
The liner need not be dark. Usually the darker line is for going out. Note that liners even come in various colors.
Can't see how you can get a felt tip marker wrong, so I imagine you are doing it right.

Re: Eyeliner question
Yep, I have questions about the implement so I can ask her tomorrow. Used some foundation powder but won't work for me too light, my wife had ivory as a color, I have some tan that works, and some liquid age rewind that seems to work too. Had a nice day today just working around the house, have to wash clothes now but have others, will have to pick up a second pair of ladies jean shorts.
