My instinct is there's some process you have to go through before you make up your mind. It's your mother's (birth)day. If it were me I would want to thrash it out with my sister before making my decision.

It would give the sense you were going behind your sister's back if you spoke to your mother. If she's so keen you go as Heather you should explain your doubts (IMO).

Obviously your sister is pushing this - and really pretty aggressively - I just feel there's a bit missing here.

I feel that since it is your mothers birthday you should ask her what would be appropriate for her, to have her son or Heather celebrate her special day. I would also talk to your sister explaining that you don't want to upset your mother going as Heather if she doesn't want Heather at her birthday dinner.

Dear Heather,

It does seem your sister is really pushing you out as Heather. This is Mom's special day, dinner in her honor, not dress up dinner. Mom has seen Heather privately so far, not in public? Don't give her stress that could be avoided. If at some other time, the three of you wish to have dinner out as women, then it would be more about getting Heather out in public with Mom.

Your Mother is so precious in her acceptance, inquiring about Heather, wanting to understand better. Don't let Melissa push Mom's limits too far.

I did not go as Heather for Mom's birthday. When I got to her place that day she seemed surprised to see her son, not sure if maybe I should have gone en femme. I have talked with my sister and she says she is not pushing me but rather trying to broaden my horizons. I do plan on having a talk with my mother soon to see how she feels if Heather were to show up once in a while for Sunday dinner or maybe just a mother/daughter dinner. I would love to spend more time as Heather and show my mother I am not a freak or anything like ha. Just not sure exactly sure how to start that conversation.
