Choosing Some New Wigs

Post by Martha G »

Hi girls!

I am thinking about getting a couple of new wigs.

I am very fair complexioned and love red lips. Right now have two blonde wigs - Martha Stewart style.

Being 71 ( but looking10 to 15 years younger when dressed en femme) what color recommendations would you say that I should look at.

Also the Martha wigs are not real short but more mid length. Should I look at a longer style?

Thanks girls in advance for your help.

We girls who are getting "a bit long in the tooth," usually don't wear long hair very well. Second we don't do "younger colors" well either, blondes, red or black.

I have bought several from Paula Young in a mixed color of browns with streaks of gray or silver, browns in softer shades mixed together and they look great. Medium and short will work best, in my opinion. Some girls can carry the solid silver or "white" but they seem to work best depending on where you are going and they are (in my opinion) more for "events," like concerts, upscale dinners, etc. But, that is just me!

Martha, simply go to a place that sells wigs and ask to try some on. I don't agree with Virginia about length or color. Well not completely disagree.

If you get hair that is so ridiculously out of the norm then certainly it's not going to look good for passing in public. As for wearing the odd colors such as blues, greens, reds, they happen to be a trend at the moment and I have yet to get any specifics that says what age can or can't wear them. If you look closely at my pictures, I'm not wearing an ordinary color but have a variety of highlights from a burgundy with brunette to a dark brunette with an obvious blonde band. I hope no one has lied to me for all the compliments I get with my wigs. When I find the right style with a blue or green in it, I'm probably going to get it. I just haven't found the right style in the right colors yet. BTW, I'm 61 and I refuse to go grey.

Now length and style in general is all about the shape of your face and not about your age. Paula Young and other wig web sites will provide some guidance about what looks good with a round face versus a long face or other shapes. A wig shop will give you the opportunity to see for yourself how the style you are wanting will or won't compliment your face. I look hideous in short styles and not so good in styles that "cup" my face. I can wear bangs depending on the bangs and then some not so nice.

Very few people have hair just one color after a certain age, unless it's all grey or white. Nothing screams wig or hair coloring as much as a flawless, one color. Us mature gals tend to wear our hair shorter than shoulder length. Although, I've seen waist length braids now and then. Buy a tie dye T-shirt to make it look just right.

Virginia beat me to it, check out Paula Young. The wigs are affordable and colors that look natural.

Thanks ladies for your comments.

I do not wear longs wigs. You can see the length of the wigs I wear in my avatar and in my photo gallery pictures.

I think that I now would like to try a couple of wigs mixed with some gray. Sounds great,

I am a mature lady and am starting to feel like one as well. Why not present my self as such. I do make an excellent looking woman when dressed so why not make an excellent looking "Mature" lady

As an added plus, I have a near woman's voice as well.

Thanks ladies!
