Maxi Dresses

I am a lover of skirts, especially knee length ones,

But I want to look into maxi dresses.

What do you ladies think of maxi dresses?

Since i will be a 72 year old CD in two months, do you think that they would look good for me.

Hi Martha,

I love the look and feel of maxi dresses. They're very popular with the women in the beach communities in Southern California. My SO has more than a few, which I've tried on. :-) I also have a fondness for flair dresses. The only issue with both of these styles for me is that I have to wear a cardigan over the top to cover my arms. I have masculine tattoos that aren't very feminine which definitely need to be hidden when I'm en femme.

I too have a problem . I have hairy shoulders and arms. So I too need a cardigan or top..

The taller you are the better the maxi looks. I don't think a maxi is the best choice for shorter ladies. That said I bet a maxi looks better on a short person rather than anything around mid calf on her.

I have umm three maxis? I have one one out to meet friends; the pic was ummmnot my best. I looked prego I think. So even a maxi needs to be carefully selected for how it's styled.

They're OK if you can pull off the look. Meaning one's hips/rear should be padded out to give the dress curves and define a waist.

I personally don't wear them, I don't like the way they look on me. But I think they do look good on someone with the right figure for it. I do really like the loose comfortable feel of a maxi dress though.
So you just have to try it on and see whether you like how it looks on you.

Oh I so want to try the maxi-dress look. I'm happy with the tight sweater, pencil skirt to knee get ups I have, but want to replicate that silhouette with a dress. Amazon seems to have many offerings for reasonable prices (some categorized as bodycon) but one can never tell, anyone has any recommendations.

I'm 6', size 12, slim and athletic in build. Oh and hello to you all.

Cyndi, as Donna pointed out, a maxi dress looks best with curves in your figure. Being that you're a size 12 with an athletic build then that's not a problem whatsoever. If you don't already have a padded girdle and breast forms, well then that's all you need. (I use a waist cincher to further enhance my feminine profile as well.)

I was measured and fitted for an average build of a lady of my age and height, and I have a pretty girdle, the "Veronica" from Classic Curves International which gives me these proportions. I chose them because they were near my home which enabled me to go in and try them out in person. However, there are many available resources for purchasing these garments.

With feminine hips you'll be able to search globally for the maxi dresses of your choice. The only other limitation is Cyndi's allowance.

Thank you Robyn for the considered advice, and I certainly will be investing in a waist control garment, cincher or corset. And as I'm still playing and exploring budget is an issues - I'm seeing likely dresses on Amazon for under $50 but then don't you get what you pay for, and then again I don't see myself wearing the dress to the office and for it to be getting a lot of wear.

You're rockin' that pencil skirt... it's a good look on you for sure! And I relate to being hesitant on spending money for something that won't be worn often. Lucky for me I get a lot of hand-me-downs from my SO.

I think most of us enjoy seeing ourselves dressed (I'm guilty of it). What I have a habit of doing is taking a dozen photos of myself in a new outfit just to see if "I" feel it looks pretty on me. Most of the time I like the hips, but not always. Truth is, I've always been attracted to curvy woman.

Hopefully, some of each, Davita! I enjoy a maxi, especially on hot, humid days. They have the length of a formal with a casual look. Also a perfect length when one is too lazy to shave her legs

I do believe they look better on a fuller figure, up to a point. Too full a figure needs just a tarp with a head hole cut out. Remember Mama Cass? Meow, Sorry! But most of the ladies here don't seem to have that problem. Age of the dresser and the times we now live in are a factor too. In the 60's my slightly older and pole shaped cousin wore maxi dresses and skirts. She was not trying to look feminine at all and in that, she was successful.

A maxi can look great in the right style for the figure. The choice is whether you want to look sexy, blend in unnoticed, or somewhere in between.
And a nice sweater or long scarf is a fun accessory to add.

When someone mentions a Maxi, I think of the length of the dress/skirt not necessary the cut, and it is the cut/fit I would suggest that has the final say on how it looks on one.

I have several maxi skirts and love them. I have one on now. No maxi dresses.
