Voice On The Phone

Post by Martha G »

I have received several calls this past week in which I was perceived as a woman on the phone!

I feel really great about that!

I do have a sort of higher pitched voice and sound like a woman at times. Especially on the phone.

But I have been thought to be a woman when I am talking to someone and they are not looking at me.

Oh my!

My voice tends naturally to sound like a woman. But I do need work at it!

It's a great feeling isn't it? It's happened to me so many times I've given up correcting the person on the phone and just go with the flow. Last time it happened was when I called Amazon customer service. The account is in my wife's name and after the security questions he kept calling me Mrs M*****d. I said please call me Joanne, I enjoyed that call immensely. I've never had a truly deep male voice and I guess it sounds higher over the phone.

Of course it can be problematic especially when I call the bank and they ask to speak to my husband as he's primary on the account....what's a girl to do.

I wish! Like higher voice Peyton Manning...Ahhhh! I always laugh when he does that. Not sure if any here have caught that commercial, usually on Saturdays and Sundays.

I have always had a rather deep booming male voice so I would actually have to make a concerted effort to soften my voice... I can when I control myself speak in a softer lighter voice and might be able to pass on the phone.

But like putting on airs, to make an actual effort to adopt flamboyant or feminine body movement and expression, doing so with my voice too ... I don't know. I am opposed to trying to make an effort to act or to sound as I think women act or sound...for me such an effort would be un natural and faking always makes it worse and fake. So I prefer to be completely natural and to just be myself and be confident and I believe people will be more accepting of that than of me trying to act or sound a certain way. If you are blessed...I am envious but I am not.

I think a natural softer conversational tone is not too bad and is more natural, and hey if you are dressed a certain way some decorum is just mandatory to good taste so how you walk in any kind of heel even a court shoe changes your walk, and some adjustments are just necessary depending on the clothes you are wearing.

I have read about how to alter your voice but it's not me I suppose.

That is really neat Martha!! Great feeling of accomplishment, isn't it?

I have heard it said that passing on the phone is difficult. I have been mistaken for my wife a couple of times and always attempt to answer the phone in my femme voice when it is a cold call (thank you caller id). My male voice is very obvious and it is difficult to maintain for a long period. But I preserver and am seeing progress.
