Bra strap slippage.

Good morning ladies,

I'm hoping you have some hints and tips to deal with a slipping bra strap. I have three different brands and types of bras but they all suffer from the same malady. Whenever I sit down I find the left strap slipping off my shoulder. Now sitting here typing this I can feel and see it slipped off and is visible by the sleeve bottom of my blouse. I've tried shortening the strap...no luck. I tried using the second set of clasps on the back to make the bra tighter....no luck. I'm seriously considering getting some of those plastic clips to turn my bra into a racer back...that way it couldn't slip.

Learned ladies of the forum any suggestions??

Usually, my straps are digging in.
If shortening the straps didn't work, your bra must be riding up. Maybe the band is a bit lose. Do you use foam forms? They are too light to hold a bra in place.

Hello Eileen,

I bought the correct band size after my wife measured me (twice to make sure) and it's not riding up as you suggested. I have silicone forms, C cup, in the correct cup size. My wife is at a loss to explain why it happens and just on the left side. She gave up and exclaimed "just like you, you're built lopsided"....she may be right.

Search Amazon for bra strap holder. There are a wide variety of them on there. I have the same problem you have with some of bras. Seems like it's just one side that does it. I like the ones that are pads that go on the shoulder. They are silicone and won't let the strap slip. Besides they are much easier to fasten.

I dunno if this is going to help, but at one point in my life I got really tense in my right shoulder. What it was was that I got really wound up about issues in my life and some of the anger went into me bunching up my shoulder.

With out a photo of you back and front , it is a little hard to see what is happening ,

What I would look at is sizing this means you what part slips,

your shoulders and what weight are you how tall are you so your body size for bra,s is what and breast / form sizing .

Okay as an idear , I'm 5 9 weight is 11 1/2 stone = 154 lb,s shoulders across left to right 18 in , size 18 skirt 35 in'' or size 16, breasts ( real ) 41 in'' or 16 D .

If and when my bra,s slip I,d shorten the front to back and below or under arms at the back I pull them in 2 clips , now if they still slip I would near the top of your shoulder put a tie like an apron string across to both sides and sew it in a little tighter so just give you less movement say you bend down to one side it cant slip because the other bra strap will hold it ,

If you wear low dress or blouse would you see it depends on how low you go say 4 in'' from top of shoulder ,s ,

Other wise make the straps wider like 2 '' instead of the narrow 1/2 '' as you may have , or to suit

Just a thought if you don't sew it use a safety pin to try out first .if your a bit thick set that too can make another issue more movement , I'm not I'm just avg so most things fit quite well ,

if you did climbing you have a harness over your shoulder and across your back left to right and like a bra across your breasts above and below , why do we not like the harness there for men and right across my breasts no thanks I change them to fit / suit my body , hope that explains better ,

For bra strap slippage try to tighten up the strap just a bit. Also could be you are wearing the wrong style bra for you. Do you have some weight in the bra, that also seems to help. Try a bra with straps set in more.

Michelle, try a bra with padded straps. They're more comfortable anyway. Since you have an expert bra wearer for advice, your wife may be right that you're lopsided. Nobody's perfect.

on bras and other issues. Looks like
you need to go to a good bra fitting store after seeing
the video so you will understand the jargon
Don't be embarrassed. Just explain your problem.
All the shops are in business to sell bras.
Suggest you go at 10AM or 6PM when there is low traffic.

Hello Ladies. Sorry for not getting back sooner I didn't mean to ignore you all.

Well it turns out it was the strap design that was causing the slippage. All of my old bras had straps that were 1/2" wide elastic since I bought some that have wider lace edged straps they stay put no matter what I am doing.

Hi Alisa, thanks for the links they're perfect. I'm ordering a set of strap clips and Joanne is interested in the tape strips she has a cocktail dress that's off the shoulder, trouble is it ends up too far off her shoulder. Those tape strips should help.

Yeah, I had the same prob. Couple things I tried that seemed to work:

1) The racer back thing with the clasp (previously mentioned by another member).

2) A little sewing req'd here, but if the straps are adjustable and long enough to start with, you can cut them at the back end only and
re-sew them to the opposite side, forming an "X" pattern in back.
This is (for me anyway) a bit more work but a bit more comfortable than the "racer back" alteration.

Very few bras are made with "X" pattern as purchased, you'll have to do your own alteration if you want it that way.

I really don't see why they aren't made that way. Is there something I'm missing here? Just my 2 cents worth.
