I am 49 and from Texas and been dressing since I was around six. I used to LOVE to wear high heels (starting with my moms). But after back surgery in 2012, I have limited feeling in my feet (like they are asleep all of the time), so I am limited to nothing but flats. Pantyhose help stimulate the nerves sensation, so I get wear 24/7.
My question is, do any of you ladies know where to find affordable flats (not ballet shoes) on line?
I hope one day I can wear heels again.

Payless is a great source of affordable shoes.

Bummer bout not getting to wear your heels, KT.
It might help to know your shoe size. If your a size 900, then no one will have shoes for you. If you're under a size 12 women's and most shoes fit you when not in a wide, the options are endless. Yeppers to Payless. Rack of Room Shoes and Off Broadway are "outlets" and have the same family owner. However, they don't have much of an overlap in brands. DSW is good. The mass discounters like DSW and Off Broadway don't always have the least expensive shoes, but they have clearance and that when I buy my shoes. You know your shoes stores in your area and many will probably have an online presence and will have free shipping and returns to the store.
I understand not wanting ballet slippers with zero padding. This means too that you will need to spend a bit more than you probably want to get an all day mall walker. I have found that just because the shoe has good padding, doesn't mean they won't hurt. I find the low heel back on some can literally be a pain. Some of the toe boxes the they are sewn can rub a toe. Wearing a shoe for 5 minutes most likely won't tell you, but get your girl up and get to the stores. That 5 minutes can eliminate half the purchases of a bad shoe and save you shipping in many cases. Consider getting a flatform that's got just a little heel lift. I like mine for the fun of them and naturally, they come in versions of sandals.
And finally, I have started wearing those little footies that come in all kinds of colors and fabrics when I am bare legged. They help a bunch for preventing a blister where the shoe rubs. These little cuties are allowed to show not that they are meant to.

I know how you feel. My ankle surgery left me unable to wear heels as well. Even tennis shoes are unsteady.
Try Shoe Carnival or DSW

Heels are nice but I find they are not really necessary I wear flats or court shoe height about 1.5" you can find so very many very feminine and so many pretty styles and they are very comfortable and practical. Besides If you are like most women if you are tall you don't want to be taller than your date. Suppose I am lucky but I am still 5'9" I limit my max heel height to 3" and I do have a few but around the house I find I just prefer a much lower heel or flats.
Go with the flow

Um, well the whole question of affordable is pretty subjective and I don't know what your price limit is. But I can say that SAS makes absolutely awesome shoes, they are genuine leather and made in Texas!!! Well I like them because they are just amazingly comfortable and really good quality, not the $30 payless special, more like $200 but I think worth every dollar. These really are a shoe you can wear all day long. BTW, often you can find them at a thrift store for $10 and you should grab every one in your size.
