Butterflies....

Post by Tara »

Hi gang, when I read this over on CDDF, I had a good cry. I had to share it over here with you all. :)

"There is a man at church. This man is very dear and sweet. He is also seriously handicapped; he uses very complicated crutches that have handholds and some kind of straps. A couple of times a month I make coffee and serve it and cookies for the social hour after the regular service. I often get this man’s coffee and a couple of cookies for him because it is just too difficult to manage all this by himself.

Yesterday (Sunday) I got him his coffee and cookies and sat with him and we talked. I had on a pretty spring skirt and sandals. On one toe I have a butterfly painted, it is very pretty and feminine. I noticed he was looking at my butterfly. In our conversation he said that when he was a young man he wanted to try to ski. Everyone told him he couldn’t do it because of the damage to his legs. He sighed and said he never tried to ski. Then he told me that I was one of his heroes because I had the courage to be what I was meant to be. I started to cry at this and tried to shush him up. He said that if he had met me earlier in his life he would be a skier now. He said the butterfly on my toe is a symbol of transformation, and when he thinks of butterflies he will think of me."

Hi all,

Tara,

Yes, I too read this on the CDDF and found it very touching also. I think we sometimes underestimate the positive effect we have on others as well as fail to tell others the positive effect they have on us. The kind of gratitude this gentleman showed is a great thing.

Thanks, girl, for posting that story here.

Love,
CJ

Hi Elizabeth,

It's a forum that a lot of us came from.

I was a member there for years before this place popped up. Thank God! :)

I somehow missed this thread. Perhaps a multicoloured butterfly could be a symbol that represents our community. It embodies the essense of transformation from drab to fabulous.

Hi Jayne,

Thank you so much for posting that info. Butterflies have a very special place in my life. I know y'all are probably tired of me referring to my wife but I have to say this.

She loved butterflies for years and grew special plants just to attract them. The day after she died, I was outside on the lawn mower trying to do something to keep my sanity. I passed a tree that never had butterflies around it and there was a yellow sulfer, her favorite, sitting on a branch about a foot away. I stopped and talked to it for about ten minutes. Then, I said that I had to get back to my lawn and before I moved, it lifted off the branch and flew around me three or four times and then off. I sat on that lawn mower and cried my eyes out for at least a half an hour. Ever since then, there have been so many special moments involving butterflies. Today, you bring us yours. There is something very special about them.

Thank you again.
