Can you wear a dress and a top...to make a skirt?

Question...I have my green print sundress...is it valid to wear a yellow ladies T top over it? I mean the green and the yellow look good together and the dress then becomes more like a skirt? I mean I like it but do women do things like this? I just came up on this idea because the yellow top was hanging over the dress in the closet and I thought...that looks rather nice....

I do know some dresses go with a blazer for work....some glittery ball gowns have little tops and furs... and some dresses come with a short little sweater like top. Hum...

It is probably ok...I have to decide is without hips can I carry this off? Perhaps a thin belt of some kind could give the illusion of hips, I mean that's true...I suppose we experiment to see what can look and hang nicely on our challenging and unshapely torsos... We can easily match the top with a bra and our forms....Hips may require creating illusion to look better but may or may not be needed. We want to look curvy too as any woman does.

Women do very much enjoy dressing up and they are very interested in dresses, jewelry and make up it is an obsession I think because it is a little challenge for them as well...it is a kind of interesting art form and when they are good at creating the overall look....Make up...hair....jewelry...the right outfit....they are spinning an attractive web by which they cast their spell that attracts men! or their mate....to keep the home fire's burning - Ha! So Women are indeed very in to wearing pretty things, including their dresses and skirts to show their shapely legs "as if to reveal some kind of treat" in an old Buffett tune... It is really true. Of course women with their moods are not focused on it and will in those moods heavily deny it all, and older women who are no longer interested let it all go and no longer care then the can become quite plump, and butch etc....

Women attract...Men look and choose and approach women who they find are attractive and pretty believing the looks go along with who the woman is or what she is like...kind, fun, loving etc...men believe the external show, says something about who or how a woman is in looking for their mate. Thing is you can't judge a book by it's cover at all and learn the superficial is shallow...wise men learn to get to know what is inside.... When the outside and the inside are to their liking....magic can happen...things like wanting to marry.

Of course I do it with the mind to attract women (ha! though I would probably not be out and about or show up for a date wearing it...can you imagine!? then again if I am trying to attract that kind of woman...hum)- a woman who is in to this part of who I am, or a woman who can accept more specifically all of who I am because I do find myself straddling the gender fence as a softer more gentlemanly moderate man...not a push over I am and can be every bit the forceful male but I am not over the top in aggression and insensitive abrasiveness...I am a loving and caring man, a gentleman.

Why can't it be a dress with a shirt over it? Why do you have to think of the dress as a skirt?
Honestly, I would simply not button the shirt if that's possible. All you're doing is layering -- nothing special. I just don't know how the outfit looks and so I can't judge it.

I would suppose you can wear whatever you want to make it whatever you want it to be. Personally I agree with Davita, just slip it on unbuttoned. I have seen that with many women and tank tops and the like so I see no reason it wouldn't work with a dress too.

Think I need a cardigan or two....but when the weather warms up...well no need then but a cardigan would be probably the classic thing women do. I am not stuck on the term...simply meant with the top on it would look as if I were wearing a skirt...

Anything worn over a sundress or sleeveless dress should be open in front. Cardigans, sweaters, vests, blazers, never a T-shirt. Changing your top cover gives one dress several looks. From casual to business, it's all in the accessories.

I was looking for a cardigan during my latest trip. The ones I found were anywhere in the $40 to $50 range. But found just what I wanted at Sears for $15. (In one of my pics in the gallery ) black with long sleeves, no buttons.

Black...another color that goes with everything...I look better in darker colors too such as Navy. I think...well I do order things off National but it is more expensive. Yes, I need a couple of cardigans. I hope that will not make my femm side too dowdy...Gee...turn 60 on the 8th. I can at least say that my chronological age differs from my biological age because I am in much better shape than people years younger than myself. I have been thinking of Navy...and a butter (yellow) to go with the green print sundress, I think it was called something else but can't remember that term. It differs only in that instead of spaghetti straps it is sleeveless, with a scoop neck but still has all the elastic gathering of a sundress bodice. Black would also be a good color for me. Thanks

Are you saying cardigans are dowdy, Anne? I suppose it all depends of style, pairings, etc... Personally, I think they can make quite a statement. I have five or six cardis and I just love them. I think they can really bring an outfit together.

I an still remember the cardigans my grandmother used to wear and yes those can look dowdy! Today there are many cute cardigans available in a rainbow of hues to dress up or down any outfit and are quite fashionable. One thing to remember about fashion rules today, there are none! You can even wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. Wear what you want and enjoy. Just remember if you are out and about and hope to blend in (or whatever the term is you prefer to use) dress appropriate for the situation.

Hum...Ok....I will. Now where to purchase them.... Honestly on the gulf coast I would already be looking for them to go on sale to hold until the fall. Our winter except for the traditional spring cold snap is over...we are into early spring. I am picking up moss and winter yard debris in preparation for the first cutting which is really more chopping things up so the sun can get to the grass better...ugh... I do not do yard work en femm...

Purchased two misses L cardigans off National...one in butter I have two green dresses, but it will go with others if they have any green or white. and a Navy on ...to start with. Now I am dress shopping and I think when I have a new one on the way those are my birth day present to myself.

There is other advantages to wearing a blouse or jacket or cardigan over a dress. Depending on the shape of the garments it can help[ create the illusion or minimize hips depending on the length of the over garment, a shorter one creating the illusion of hips and a longer one minimize them. Also the color will assist in this depending on whether you attempt to match or contrast the color of the dress. Also for us bustier girls a properly fitting over blouse or cardigan can help create the illusion of a smaller bust line.

Purchased one more in Azalea a light red/darker pink color. Size is Misses L for myself so the length is probably 22" over 24" but in a Woman's size while the length would have been better the bust would have made it too big.

It is still spring so I may yet get to try them...over a dress or a pair of slacks or jeans seems most women and more and more of them prefer pants to dresses around here. Dresses are I suppose more for younger women and or dressing up while most all casual wear around here consists of jeans, shorts, capri's, or slacks with some kind of top. But depends on the woman and this woman likes to wear a dress once in a while even casually around the house on occasion. When the weather is warmer dresses then become really nice to wear.

STILL spring?! Yesterday The snow was so thick and heavy the snowblower broke halfway through the drive way. I had to shovel the rest by hand breaking up row after row with a dirt shovel before going back to the snow shovel. . Admittedly , I was thinking about floral print dresses, cardigan sweaters and twinsets the whole time. Spring is where you find it, I guess.
