Hi Anita,

It's been waaaaay too long! You're right about DUI/DWI or whatever your state calls it. 'Phil' went through that and it was no fun at all. Avoiding trouble is the key, but if you do get 'canned' while dressed you do have the right to ask for, and recieve, segragated lockup where you will not be harmed. In small towns this may not be possible, but if you asked and you get hurt by another inmate, you'll own the town after your civil suit is settled. GG's constantly think about their safety when they're out and so should we. They know how vulnerable they are because of years of experience which we don't have. Like passing, it's a trick we can learn though, and we should learn this one. Thanks for the reminder!

ahem . . . a "right" to recieve a segragated lock up (from other males)???? I don't think so. One can ask for anything but we don't have an absolute right. If we did, even small towns would have to comply. If I'm wrong please cite a source! Thank you.

Why not just say, "I've never heard of that." or ask, "Can you tell me how you found out about that?"

!!tongue!! ***huh*** !!tongue!!

vs "ahem" or "I don't think so?"

[-X

Please be polite.

Hi Penny--
It's good to see you here!

I'd have to go with Alexandra on this one. Unless you're carrying papers from a therapist, you're going to end up with your "biological brothers"--that is, other males. Maybe in the bigger cities they might segregate you if you asked. But I don't think there's any legal right at all.

I'm even remembering an episode of Law and Order where lawyers couldn't keep a convicted transwoman from being locked up with men, because she had not had an operation. It didn't matter that she'd been on hormones. That might have been an early 90s show, and maybe in some states that's been changed.

beauty, sorry for seeming to be tactless, but us girls need to know that if you get busted in drag for whatever reason, the conseqences will be waaayyyyy nastier for us than our biological friends. This should be the topmost thing on any TG/CDr's mind when thinking about stepping on the wrong side of the law.

I believe we have to be VERY CAREFUL about making statements that could mislead some of us into thinking we have "rights" protecting us when we actually don't. So if Penny has information, she NEEDS to share it with us so we can confirm what kind of "rights" she says we have.

If anybody is offended, I apologize (its nothing personal Penny! 8)), but statements pertaining to our well being HAVE to be scrunitized -- false security could lead to a lifetime of regret.

The bottom line is that as CDs we ALL have to be VERY careful in order to avoid negative run-ins with the law. I was fortunate that in my situation it was moreso an issue of embarrasment than an issue of safety. But some girls might not be so lucky.

Here are some very good rules of thumb for us who like to venture out en femme:
1) If you live in a somewhat high-risk area (lots of police activity & lots of fights in the streets & altercations in establishments resulting in arrival of the cops) try to avoid going out alone.
2) If you're pulled over in your car by a cop, tell the truth and DO NOT LIE. DO NOT tell the officer you're female unless your driver's license legally says so.
3) Try to keep a spare change of male clothes (along with nail polish remover & cold cream) in your car for emergencies.
4) DON'T DRINK & DRIVE!!! [-X This one I cannot stress enough!!!
Live it. Love it. OWN IT.

Hi Y'all,

Whether separate cells or not, this thread should get everyone who goes out enfemme thinking. Having been on the other side of the badge, I know that each individual officer has his (or her) own feelings and will react according to them. Even if you have legal recourse, the damage has been done. As they used to say on TV, "You be careful out there"!
