Lately I have been having a run of styes and it is driving me nuts. My wife seems to think it might be caused by makeup but, while that is a plausible cause, I don't hear about women dealing with styes all of the time and they wear makeup all of the time.
I don't wear the makeup to bed; I use the makeup removal cloths to take everything off and then dip a cotton swap into makeup removal liquid and swap my lashes just to make sure I get all of the mascara off.
I clean my brushes regularly and try not to touch my eyes; what the hell am I doing wrong?
have you ever had a stye?

Re: have you ever had a stye?
I wonder if your use of cleaning products isn't half the problem. Simple soap and water takes off almost every kind of makeup. Some of the makeup removers are oil based so you're just smearing oil on your eyes. We all know a greasy face isn't the best for our complexions any more than a dried up crusty one.
Check into not just the makeup being a problem, but your cleansers as well.

Thank you Davita, perhaps you're onto something. From now on nothing but mild soap and water.

Re: have you ever had a stye?
Styes are caused by a bacteria so it is more a matter of what is sticking to your makeup than the makeup itself I would guess. I get end up with a stye a couple of times a year and the Dr. says its because of my work doing remodeling and all the dust I deal with and constantly rubbing the dust out of my eyes. He tells me to stop rubbing my eyes but you know I just can't seem to stop it.
I did find out recently that what works best for me in getting rid of one is to use a tea bag. Steep the teabag in cub of a water then let it cool off and hold it on your eye. You don't have to reheat or use a new tea bag during the day I just put mine in a zip lock back and then take it out and put it back on for about 10 minutes every few hours. It clears my stye up in a couple of days.

Some people get styes more than others. Never had one myself, but it looks painful.
