Our images here on this forum - caution

I've recently created a Facebook account as Bernice. I haven't yet posted an avatar. As part of my due diligence, I used Google Reverse Image Search with an avatar from here on the forum, and sure enough, Google found it.

I haven't thought this through, but this revelation gives me pause. Facial Recognition could soon pull everyone out of the closet, and I have no idea what, if anything, any of us can do about it.

Maybe I am overthinking this.

FB makes it's money connecting people, even when we don't want to be connected. You'll have to ask yourself, who else might do a reverse image search? Maybe post a deceased relative from a family album as an avatar?
Some of you gals are so cautious in keeping your anonymity, you miss out enjoying life.

Having seen how easily FaceBook and Gooogle can discover faces, I agree with you. I do have to keep Rikki separate from the other "me" for many reasons. Hence, I went through my images here and on flickr and deleted those with clear facial images. At my age my heart couldn't tolerate being outed.

Yes, your avatars here are 'searchable', as Bernice pointed out.

However, any and all photos in the photo gallery are NOT searchable . . . the public does NOT and never has had access to that area of the forum.

That is why we have always been adamant about no links to photos in the gallery as part of any post here. Any link(s) to the gallery will let the public - and the searchbots - have access to the gallery and every image/photo in there.

Once this forum goes offline on 10-30-2019, so does all of the photos.
