After my husband told me that he was a CD, I went looking on the internet to try and find out what it was all about (any info).
I didn't know anything about crossdressing, (what it was, what it wasn't) :?
For all I knew (at the time), it could've all been true ***huh***

I did have more success in finding clean websites using the word crossdressing. But thus is another reason I have always had a problem with being referred to as transvestite. It just always had a more negative connotation somehow and always seemed to be tied in with porn, hookers and Jerry Springer. :?

Hi!
I had the same experience 4 years ago. I wondered about myself. What
I saw scared me as if I didn't have enough problems already. 5 months
into therapy I started to get a better understanding of myself. I spent
a couple weekends looking and found CDDF. It was the greatest and a
lot of the people were the best. Toward the end of the year it began to
be more controled by more nasty people who only enjoyed bickering and
name calling. I had enough of that in my first 20 years on this planet.

Beauty I think was saying this place was here and a nice place to be.
I came, and end of story. This is the best for family oriented people like
myself. Those that don't find it exciting here, I would guess, go elsewhere.
Thanks again from me for all who contribute to make this the home I
never had!

Kisses,
Kersten

I'm not exactly sure what combination of words led me here, but the search started with "transgender theory". That came from a posting on a mailing list of people who read and write trans fiction (I don't know what the general feeling on that is here, but it helped me get through the lean years when I couldn't dress). Sometimes it takes a roundabout route to get where one wants to go.

FYI,

One day I was trying to get to this forum and ended up on a Crossdresser's Discussion Forum and was mortified. I was able to read anything I wanted to and it was all men, discussing a variety of topics, most of which I found offensive. If I was a wife who just discovered my husband's CDing and went to that site, I would have run from the house screaming!

I agree, that most of the time I refine my searches with support for wives of CD'rs or something to that affect. The problem lies now in the fact that I've exhausted all of my resourses. There's nothing left that I haven't seen or read yet. I can't seem to find anything new.

Crossdresser's Discussion Forum used to be my first stop when I would get on the net. It used to be some what better for SOs, but never as good as this site. What happened to it is that when we found out that this site was available a lot of us moved over here leaving more room for those with other interests to feel comfortable there.

I still check it out about once a day but find very little reason to post there any more. It now has definitely turned into a place I would not have joined were I new and looking for an Internet home, and I would probably have been willing to join you running from the house screaming!

Well this rant of mine turned into a very interesting discussion and I am so glad to see that....

I for one feel the internet is THE BEST thing since sliced bread.... actually for real, the internet is GREAT....

And it should NEVER be censored..... Never.....

I guess what bothers me is the comercial endevors out there who look at the internet as a "cash flow" source.... I truely believe 90% of the porn sites are owned by 10% of the people.... It is a comercial endevor and they will use whatever marketing scheme they think will work..... Kind of like....

"Gee, Sam we need to increase our trafic on www.porncrap.com" what can we do????" and Sam replies "Well Mike, if we add keywords like crossdressers, wife, help, forum, advice, help...., we can get real people who are just looking for help from others in similar situations? Then we get traffic and hits and can up the ad rate...."

As with everthing else in America (and yes I realize the internet in WorldWideWeb, but America is the bulk of the money flowing endlessly into crap... other countries obviously have intelligent citizens) it is a commercial endevor.... It is much easier to find a site to spend money on then to find a site of good people who are there to help you (for free)....

I am ranting, so I will stop, but thank you all for your comments.... oh, and by the way I STILL don't have a clue of a place like what I was looking for... Steph, I tried your idea.... not much there

While I realize that everyone who crossdresses may not have gender dysphoria, I think that , that is what we are talking about when we talk about crossdressing as far a researching it goes.

So? that is one angle.

[quote="Josey"]Hi Shannon,

I sure do agree with you. The "Net" getting worse by the day. Unfortunately, there is not much one person can do about it.

I'll stick my one cent's worth in here. I agree that it is frustrating to search for CD/TG topics, but if you use 'advanced search' functions or 'Boolean Language'(the ", the +, the -, etc.) you can filter out most of the bad stuff. If you google CD'ing like this:
"nightclubs"+"Houston"+"GLBT"-"Sex", what you'll get is ONLY Houston GLBT nightclubs for the most part. WEeb porn operators know how to use "meta tags" so that search engines will take the unsuspecting to their sites. But there IS something every one of us can do...

Google doesn't rely on meta-tags, rather they use the sites popularity, so if you 'surf in' to good sites by using Google, then it raises that sites ranking thus increasing the likelyhood of it coming in ahead of the porn sites. If everyone were to always do this, then we'd bury the porn sites so far down that they'd either have to pay someone to surf their site to increase it's ranking or accept the low ranking. Now, other search engines may not place such a high ranking on site visits so I can't tell you what to expect from them; just that Google works like this. There's not much use in using other search engines unless you're looking into very specialized or obscure topics since Google consistantly rates at the top of every PC topic magizine's ratings. Once you learn how to use it's advanced functions, which are on their website, it'll be your best internet friend!

I discovered that I wasn't the only hetero CD'er years ago after sifting through 20+ pages of crap, then finding a message board similar to this one using yahoosearch. Though I'm no expert surfer by far, I have learned a lot about this stuff and it has made life here SOOOOO much nicer!

Boy, the feed back an suggestions so far are GREAT.... but I think my point is being missed....

The internet has a LOT of great reasources, but day by day it is getting taken over by commercial endevors...... There is persons and companies out there who have a product to sell (most of it is pornographic stuff) and (I know there is obviously a market for that) but my gripe is that is what is now driving the internet....

As many of you have pointed out, Google (which is the best search engine in my opinion) is taking "sponser links", i.e. accepting money to place a certain link above others..... Because companies are willing to pay for it...... Money rules the world and it is ashame......

I guess what I am getting at is that there is forces out there who are determined to TELL you what is RIGHT and what you should spend your money on... other than that they don't care about you

I just wish places that care about people would have the same IMPORTANCE as places that are there to take your money....

I am not so bothered that I can not find a CD friendly club in Houston to go to with my wife, what I am bothered by is that I find so MUCH GARBAGE while looking for that.....

The Real Issue

Post by Jamie Ann »

There are some “profit motive” features that are built into the searches. Due mostly to habit, I use the Hotbot search engine, which gives one several options: (1) the Hotbot engine, (2) the Google engine, and others. I typically use Hotbot, but with the Google engine.

Whichever engine one uses, they are likely to get “sponsored links” at the head of the list. Now I assume that “sponsored links” mean that the company that is linked pays a fee to the search engine. Now, who is most likely to pay a fee, a highly lucrative porn site, or a non-profit site whose purpose is supporting the needs of SO’s? The Hotbot “sponsored links” are likely to be porn sites. For an SO looking for information, this could create the impression that crossdressing is all about extramarital sex, sex with other crossdressers, and so forth. What would you expect the reaction of an SO to be? Would you expect her to decide that crossdressing was something she could accept? Alexandra and others are right that one could do a highly specific search and bypass the porn sites, but you would have to have a sense of what you were trying to avoid in order to do this.
Take care,

Jamie Ann
