What draws you to this forum?

Post by CJ »

Hi all,

The forum will be a year old soon. I got to thinking...

Aside from the obvious fact that I'm a crossdresser (whatever that means! :P ), I've been trying to get a handle on what it is, exactly, that keeps me coming back to this place. Why is it that I feel so good, about myself, about others, about the world, whenever I walk away from here? Even in our most heated debates (and there have been a few), I always step away from the keyboard having found myself richer for the experience. What is it that keeps you coming back (regardless of the frequency at which you do so)?

Comments welcome.

Love,
CJ

Hi CJ,

I had absolutely no choice but to select All of the above for very obvious reasons.

It reminded me of the apptitude test in school. The first thing it said was to read all directions. Then the directions tell you to read all the questions before you answer any. The last question tells you not to do any of the problems.

Generally the last answer is one of two of the most extreme views of the survey, postitive and negative. I was glad I read all the answers before answering. I was already thinking well, I have more than one choice, until I got to the last answer.

Great survey.
Love always,
Elizabeth

I have yet to find an online forum that is as mature as this one. Not even for general chat! So I'm quite tempted to talk about other things, but i'm restraining myself.

what draws you to this forum

Post by Sally »

I think all the choices given add to the attraction of this forum. The lack of trolls is a huge plus, as they make open forums so unpleasant, especially for those who are finding their way and are less able to handle the abuse.

I believe it's very important for those people who are unable to intermix with others in their normal course of life to have a safe place to come and exchange ideas, or learn from those who are further along the track with it all. People who have a common bond, such as we do, where ever we fit in the mix, need the support and friendship of others, especially as being who we are, the general community refuses to embrace us. People who have common interests are always drawn together, especially if the majority of the community see them as being outside of the generally accepted norm.

Many, many hundreds of years ago, John DONN, the medieval poet and cleric first coined the phrase, No man is an Island. He was telling people of his time that they were never meant to live in isolation, everybody needs the company of others, we are 'herd animals' and as such need the love and support of others. This applies as much today as it did then, maybe even moreso.

I think healthy debate is good, such as we have here from time to time. I've never learnt anything from someone who totally agrees with me and it's refreshing to be able to have a debate and disagree without having to suffer abuse as happens so often on other forums.

This is the only forum I visit and participate in these days.

I might suggest that this forum has the potential to be the biggest and best of it's kind ever, due to its' setup, continual refinement and fine tuning, plus the quality of the people who oversee it and those who participate.

Kind Regards.

Sally.

Hi!
CJ, thanks for giving me a thought to reflect. Reading all the others,
I agree with everyone. This is the absolute best group of people I have
ever been blessed to be called one of the girls, or by any other name!

Sally, I have been many times lately agreeing entirely with your views.
You said every thing I would say and probably better. Thank you!

When I was suffering so much when I first appeared what seems like
years ago, was only Feb. No one chastized me and I only got help and
support from every person here including many SO's who have written.
Someone, anyone could have used bad language at me or even have told
me to get over it and get a life. I would not have returned and now it is
hard for me to imagine anyone of you disappearing from my life.

Thanks again to all of you for being here for me. I was before a person
alone in my thoughts.

Kisses for all!
Kersten

One tiny thing...

Post by Gabrielle »

All of the above certainly applies and then some. However, there is one little thing I would like to be able to do which I haven't been able to as of yet.

I have asked if it was possible but supposedly not at this time.

I was just hoping to have a user setting that would allow me to retain the postings to be displayed from newest first as opposed to older first. Instead of having to do it everytime I go to another thread.

Another thing I have been noticing this past month is that sometimes I have to log in twice and when that happens, I lose the indicators of new postings.

Anyways, I am sorry to put negative comments because this site is really great, but I just feel that if these would be resolved, It would make the experience here even better.

Take care and thanks!

Hi all,

I ABSOLUTELY have to answer all of the above!

This is my favorite website on the internet *;*;*

I feel grateful for all the hard work done by our founders/administrators/moderators past and present for making this website a real oasis in the midst of all the offensive sites. @->->- @->->- @->->-

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your responses. :)

I think, for me, Sally pretty much summed it up, from a "sociological" perspective, and, Kersten, ever true to her wonderful self, from a "psychological" perspective.

I hear you, Gabrielle. I think these issues are things Shannon is looking into.

Again, thanks to all. 8)

Love,
CJ

Well, depending on the system the owners have setup (phpBB, should be stock from the looks of it ) it shouldn't be TOO hard to add a user preference to reverse the sort order on the messages... If I wern't so darn busy with things I'd do it for them.
