When I do a goggle search for her site (I know the address just seeing if it will come up) I get zip. I feel in some way that a failing my mom in the design of the web site. Can any one make suggestions.

You should read googles tips section. I would say at first glance that you may be triggering one of their "anti-stacking" watches.

If a website looks like it has been designed to artificially raise it's importants in the rankings then google will blacklist the site for a short time.

It's also possible that google simply hasn't indexed your site yet. You could try manually submitting it to their search engine spider.

Hi Jessie,

Ahzz recommended submitting your pages manually to google. That’s probably the most important thing you should do. It’s a pretty simple process, so consider submitting your site to more than just the one search engine. I think it still takes around 7 days after submission for your site to come up on a search.

I’m wondering what Ahzz sees that leads her to believe that your site is activating an anti-stacking mechanism. It would be helpful to know, so you could deal with it. (Ahzz?)

You might also consider adding ‘keywords’ and ‘description’ meta tags to your source code (there are none there now). These tags give you more control over the types of searches that will retrieve your site. You can find their syntax and description on any good html website, or in a good html book.
The tags are helpful but not necessary, and they’re not as important as submitting your site to the search engines manually. -Nicole

That's the thing. Google and other sites keep mum about what triggers it. 8-P They don't want the spammers getting ahold of the specifics and creating a workaround. 8-(

Nicole is right though. If youi really want your site found, you should submit it to as many large search engines as you can find.

I've had client sites show up after 6 hours before, and some took weeks. It all depends on how busy the search engines are at the time.

Descriptions and keywords WILL help you. However, make certain that if you place a word int one of those two meta fields that you also use the keyword in legitimate sentences int he document or the search engines will ignore that word.

There are MANY tricks of the trade to gettign a better search ranking. True word content is just the start. Even I know only a few of the better methods. ;-P

Good luck!

Hi Jessie,

I can tell you that both Nicole and Ahzz are correct. Submitting your site to as many search engines as possible is definitely a good start. Another suggestion is to see what keywords you are using within your site - there's an HTML command that you place within the page itself that will cause your link to appear in the listing once those specific keywords or phrases are entered into various search engines.

As for appearing in your more major search engines such as Google, it's just a matter of patience. It took several months for one of my old websites to appear in Google or Yahoo. I can't believe I found links to my old sites when I typed in Lorna Taylor into the search!! There's no reason why the same can't work for you.

Feel free to e mail or PM me if you have any further questions. Good luck to you! :)
