Weight loss group, anyone?

Post by Angie »

Hi, ladies!

I thought I’d float around an idea and see if there’s any interest. While some girls are blessed with a figure that could launch a thousand ships, others of us have bodies that could stop a train --- literally. What if we were to start a sort of “weight watchers” group on the forum? Once a week (Monday?), everyone would report their progress towards their goal.

I for one need motivation to stay on track. Is anyone (CDr or SO) here in the same boat? If so, join in. You need not post your actual weight if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. Drop a dress size in the process? Share it with the group. How you choose to shed the pounds is your decision. Just make it a healthy one. I’m following a restricted carb regimen with about 8 hours of cardio per week thrown in.

Take care!

Hi all,

Angie,

I think that's a great idea! 8) As to whether or not people will want to participate, well, we'll have to see. I'm game.

I've been wanting to better look after myself as far as my eating habits go. I also need to exercise more. Although I walk a lot during the day, on the job, I should really get some kind of cardio happening. That makes me a little nervous, though, because of a congenital heart valve defect, a heart murmur, basically. My doc says she wants me to pay attention to my BMI, on the one hand (I should aim for 25, she says), and that I should do some cardio within reasonable limits, on the other. Oh, and, of course, I should quit smoking!

Here's a BMI calculator, for those of you that are interested:
http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm

Weight:
Starting: 215
Current: 215
Goal: 175/180

BMI:
Starting: 30.0
Current: 30.0
Goal: 25.0

Good Luck Angie (and any other participants coming onboard)! :)

Love,
CJ

Angie,
I will join the "good-bye pounds express!"
I have two reasons, the first being the SCC in Atlanta and the second is the AAU World Powerlifting Championships.
I don't have much to lose but the older you get the harder it is to drop 4 -5 pounds or more!

current weight: 196
target: 190 "-"
:et's go girls, drop those dress sizes?!

Hi Girls,

OK, I'm in. I don't eat fried food, crisps, sweets, drink alcohol once a fortnight, and I'm still not losing weight. Missing out on all the fun things should have made a difference... it really should :( I put the weight on when I stopped smoking. I think my problem must be lack of excerise

Starting weight.........202lb approx I haven't checked lately
Current weight.........202
Goal weight.............175

BMI.........................29
Goal BMI.................25

I hate what I see in the mirror, my body doesn't match the way I feel, and I'm not talking about the extremities here

Love

Hi All,

I lost my 40 lbs over two years ago and have been happily maintaining 160 ever since. So I don't need to lose anymore.

But I will be happy to lend moral support to anyone who wants it.

Oh, I used a Herbalife program to lose and maintain for a while. Not doing anything sepcial other than watching portion sizes now. I exercise only sporadically but have a stationary bike that I really should use regularly for the cardio.

I would rather reshape than loose weight. I do not want to post it do to well I do not weigh a lot. A lot less than every one else who has posted. My problem is just getting the shape and having the energy to do it. I find the only excersies I get is using the stairs as many times as I can at home and at work. I got five stories at home and one at work than am always using. I avoid the elevator in my building when ever I can so I figure this is a small start for me I guess.

Hi, girls!

Just wanted to say, "THANKS!" to all who responded. My BMI is coming in at around 36, trying for 25. Unfortunately, I'm traveling with the corporate suits this week, so exercise and healthy eating are difficult to squeeze in. Nonetheless, I will make progress by next Monday and hope that everyone will meet their goals - no matter how big or small.

Best wishes to all :)

Week one: -,,- Gained one pound! Oh, well. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. Did not get any cardio in last week (no excuses for most of the week). Hope to post better news next time.

And how did everyone else do????

Angie,
SCC is a 'commin, got to get down to those smaller dress sizes. Dare I say, I lost two more pounds this week, at about 194 now. Tried on some of the outfits I may be wearing in Atlanta. That was all the motivation I need. I want to look GOOD!!! It's diet, exercise and motivation!!!

Hi all,

Hmmmmm... still the same. 8-[ (Maybe the scale is broken? :P ) Well, I'm just now getting back to work and I had a pretty lazy vacation, so that might explain it. I think. Still, I'll press on!

Ok I have one warning to tell everyone of you Ladies

First I will tell my story about me and Diets from my Past.

In 1978, Yes I am telling my age, When I got out of the Army I weighted 178 Pounds. I am 6ft 2 inches tall. at that time I was running 8 to 10 miles a day. Was made too. I would eat on the way home at Wendy's 2 of there largest burgers, 3 frys and 2 chocolate shakes on the way home to the apartment that I shared with a married couple. I was not fat at all and could bench press 650 pounds with my legs. Well I got out and stop doing any exercise and when to live with my parents and only gain about 10 or so pounds, Mom makes great biscuits.

Then I got married to my loving wife in 1980. Well by the 1989 I was weighing in at 320 pounds after attempting many diets. The diets are want got me to the mass of weight. I started my first diet when I weighed 230 pounds and could not get back to 190 my goal weight. I would lose to a point and then could not lose no more. So I would get mad and stop and would go back to eating and then I would gain the weight back plus 10 or 12 pounds. This cycle went on until I weighed in at the above 320.

In 1989 at a weight of 320 pounds the day of surgery, I had a gastric bypass or stomach stapling as some call it in Little Rock, Ark. When I went back to the doctor for the follow up visit I weighed in at 167. I had lost it too fast. My gallbladder was fine during the surgery but in this month I had formed over a 100 gall stones. 6 months later another surgery but I got a free extra skin cut off my stomach.

Well It has been 15 years and I now weigh in at about 205.

I still want to get to my goal of 190 but I doubt if I will ever do it

So watch what you wish for loosing not enough can cause major problems and loosing too much can also. Gelinda.
