Many thanks...
Hi!
Thank you all for your posts, positive comments, and support. It is truly appreciated and hopefully soon there will be someone else here on the forum we can all offer our support to as they make this decision and have their ears pierced.
Today I am wearing my hair pulled back in a pony tail. Anyone who hasn't already noticed will certainly notice today and either comment or not. I will be certain to post how things go. I think my biggest critic might be my male chauvinist misogynist homophobic friend at work. He has harassed me about my interest in theater in the past and I am sure this will not go without comment. Of course, I don't really care. They are my ears and it's my choice.
Tomorrow night when I go to Pas de Deux class, I'll duck if I see any leotards flying my way!
Later,
Brianna

After Day 1
Hi!
Well, yesterday came and went without comment. It was as if nobody noticed but I'm sure they noticed. This is confirming my opinion that nobody really cares if you pierce your ears or not.
Even my friend who I labeled as a male chauvinist misogynist homophobe said nothing... zip, nulla, nada, niente.
I hope this is giving encouragement to anyone who thinks this is a big deal.
More tomorrow.

Another Update...
Hi!
I know that this is perhaps getting old for many of you but I figure if I can let everyone know the reactions I receive it may help others overcome their fears. I promise I will not post on this subject after Friday unless something major happens.
I pulled my hair back in a ponytail again this morning. It makes the earrings very, very obvious. I figure if anyone is going to notice it will surely happen while my hair is pulled back.
Today 2 people made very matter of fact comments about having my ears pierced. After the initial comment and a very brief conversation it was back to business as usual. End of story.
Perhaps this would have been a bigger issue years ago but it just really has not had the shock value I thought it might.
I will post more tomorrow night...

Another Update...
Hi!
Last night I was tired so I thought I would wait until this morning to post the news.
Yesterday I once again wore my hair pulled back in a ponytail. I received no comments regarding my earrings.
I was talking with a female co-worker who had not commented and perhaps had not noticed. I mentioned that I was taking Ballet classes and in Pas de Deux I had a slight mishap with the earrings. She suggested that I might want to get some small continuous hoop earrings like the ones she was wearing. Apparently the clasp is inside the hoop so there is no back. I admit it is tempting but not until my 6 weeks is up.
I've mentioned my male chauvinist, misogynist, homophobic friend previously. I usually see him on breaks and go to lunch with him everyday. He still has not mentioned them at all. I know he is not blind and my earrings are pretty noticeable but he still has not said anything. Obviously it's not that big a deal to him.
I think quite honestly I would get more comments if I wore a suit and tie to work one day... (I never really wear dress clothed to work. On the occasions I do people ask if I have an interview. Normally it's because I am going to the theater that night.)
I encourage anyone who hesitated doing this to consider it again. In the end, there are only 2 opinions that matter in this decision... yours and your spouses (if you have one.) Everyone else's opinions are unimportant... You have to look at yourself in the mirror every morning and decide if you are living the life you want... not them.
I'll post more later...

Brianna,
Just curious what type of work you do. You mentioned you have long hair so I'm guessing your not an IBM exec.
I work construction and have short hair but have been seriously considering getting mine pierced. A friend of mine said do one then about two or three months later do the other. I'm impatient and I want both now but it would be very obvious and the guys on my job would certainly say something. Homophobia is rampant in construction workers.
So maybe the one at a time idea is best. There are plenty of guys who have one ear pierced but few are my age. My daughter's boyfriend has both pierced but he's 22. Their generation looks at it as normal.

The morning report and answers to questions...
Hi!
Yesterday I had 2 comments.
A female co-worker asked, "When did you get your ears pierced?" I responded, "Two weeks ago Saturday." Her response was, "I'm sorry. I haven't been very observant. They look nice. Are you going to get some bling bling now?"
I was outside with my male chauvinist, misogynist, homophobic friend and another male co-worker asked me about my pierced earrings. He was why I got them and I said I figured "what the hell." My 'friend' pipes up and suggests I'm getting my nipples pierced. I replied, "That's on my list of things to do but I haven't done it yet..."
You're right, I do not work for IBM but I do work in software design for the Department of Defense. We do not have a dress policy so things are very relaxed. The rule is not to wear anything that is offensive.
I suppose getting one ear pierced and then the other would draw less attention. I just wanted it and did it. Follow your heart where ever it leads you. It will let you know what the right decision is for you.
As far as Onyx Ball studs go, you need to take into consideration where you are going to have your ears pierced. If you go to a place like Piercing Pagoda, they will only use their sterilized earrings. If you go to a 'piercer' they will only use an earring with a surgical stainless steel or titaniun post. Just remember that when you are making your purchase.

My last update...
Hi!
I just wanted to post this one last time. Today I went to work and wore my hair pulled back in a ponytail.
Today I received no comments. I'm sure plenty of people have noticed over the last week but either chose not to comment or didn't know what to say.
I hope that anyone who has been considering this but chose not to because they were afraid of the comments will reconsider.
Later,
Brianna

LMAO! I:lol: have a standard set of negation words that I use on all search engines. Even normal words like tennis, nascar, or linux brings up those dang pron sites. 8-PAnne wrote:Yes, if you type onyx balls into a search engine you could get the wrong thing![]()
