I guess we won't be getting many members from this part of the world.

Hi all,

Interesting article, Chantelle. Sorta puts our own freedom of expression issues into perspective, doesn't it? :-k "Leaders-for-life" are always scary, I find (or funny--the title sounds like something Calvin and Hobbes would struggle over attributing to themselves).

Love,

I wonder if rap music is banned there?

It sounds like an awful place-A reminder, keep off my list of places to visit.

Uhhh Yeaaaahhh, :-k

I was looking at the article earlier today and thought of posting it in the "Fashion & Beauty" section as a *Travel Advisory* to pack lots of "Wheat Coloured" makeup if "Headed" in that direction

Earlier this year I heard a presentation (with photos) by a fellow who went into some of the "...stan" countries doing volunteer medical work ... #-o #-o #-o

I found this additional tidbit on Yahoo, from a variation on the same story:
Niyazov prefers to be called "Turkmenbashi," or Father of All Turkmen. In February, he launched a crackdown on young men wearing beards or long hair and in April said young people should not get gold tooth caps.

Last year, he said girls should wear braids and traditional Turkmen hats, which later became a rule for all female students.

Niyazov has banned all opposition and controls all branches of government and the media. Golden statues and busts of the president are scattered across the country, and his portrait is on every banknote and coin.
Turkmenistan is not as Muslim as some other countries I might mention, but it's unusual to see a government crack down on the wearing of beards. Usually such legislation runs the other direction.

I first heard this story on BBC about him buikding an ice palace though the contry is located in the desert. They did saw he wanted it to be the mountains but still and ice palace "so his people can learn to sky" I believe they where saying. What is wrong with this picture??

That is so funny! If only it were that easy.

Hi all,

Hey, Jessie! Don't apologize. [-X

After learning to "human," my next move is, indeed, to learn to "sky"!
