True enough Kristen, we need to maintain a sense of humour. Perhaps I am only speaking emotionally, but I would like to see more accurate and precise representations of CD's rather than the Jerry Springer depictions. :P

This may seem contradictory to my initial post, but I absolutely have a sense of humor about my CDing. I go out en femme roughly once a week, secure in the knowledge that even <fill in name of famous sight-impaired person> would not mistake me for a woman.

I don't like reality TV, and this show probably won't be any better than any other "reality" TV show. I hate the way that the media pokes fun at everyone who doesn't meet their standard of glory. Even though I'm defending "this great ntaion" (or lower gas prices), I caught crap at school for being in the army. While I'm supposedly a symbol of american freedom, I still don't get recognized as such, but just as some silly person with no sense of what in or out of style. Even as a guy, I care about what I wear. I wear clothes that express me whether I'm the Mad Demi-god Unicron (my original name on this board, and my name elsewhere on the net...) or Celes, a name I picked out of the blue just for this board (which actually came from Final Fantasy VI [or III if you played it on the Super Nintendo]). It's things like this that make me not want to watch TV that much. It's all about looking good and being better than everyone else. This, in my opinion, is the beginning of the destruction of the human race.

I have the same view as Elizabeth, perhaps such a show would do CDers some good. TV shows, in general, tend to make things in our soceity a little more acceptable. And with the popularity of Reality shows, who knows... perhaps CDing will become a Fad for a while?

I'm not much into reality TV shows, as everyone I've attempted to watch has been nothing but a huge let down. Its always left me with a bad taste in my mouth and wondering "Why?"

I'd like to at least see the first episode, see what may happen.

I'm not dreading this one. I don't think they're trying to poke fun at us, and I do think the guys will have to take their new roles seriously. It is no fun to be "a guy in a dress," if you go out. I'm being optimistic, but I think these men (the ones who stick it out) will become good at what they're trying to do. It's partly survival, and it's also the old male drive to do well when you're competing. In this case, they're competing to become believable and/or attractive women.

I'm partly basing this on a segment of another reality show, where guys had to do this for one evening only. (I don't know which one it was.) They rose to the challenge, and they looked good. They took it seriously, and it showed.

Remember, the pressure is off these men, 'cause they don't have to take responsibility for it. It's like the local Lion's club doing a beauty contest parody, and all the secret CDs get to live out some great fantasies while pretending to just go along with the program.

And what if the ratings go through the roof, and they start doing a continuing series? More and more guys would discover that the sky doesn't fall in when they dress femme. A gal can dream, can't she?

And if it goes to Season 2, you can bet that the producers will post ads for auditions that, to our dismay, will include the line "Experienced CDs need not apply."

Hi girls, I begining to think that any exposure to crossdressing has been good for people to accept that it's reality. Even if we are made fun at.
People will make fun of anything they can, just to get a laugh. then the attnention is on them and it is also a defense mechanism, it gives people time to think things thru.
I remeber Billy Crstal in Soap, he treated him self to a dress from a female family member, she saw him in it and said he looks better in it than I do. That was in the 70's, I laughed and it did look good on him.
There was Devine on ALL In The Family, Archie couldn't see that she's was a guy until she took off her wig. Norman Lear was way ahead of anybody bringing crossdressers to prime time.
We have had lots of exposure on TV, Maury Povich, has treated us well, The Newlywed game was famous for letting out that my husband like to wear my clothes. And it was always the girls letting the audience know that he does.

We have been on the tele for a long time.
One TV show is not going to embarrass us at all. I also think that most people that watch these "reality" show have figured out that aren't as real as the producers would like to make us think. Image is everything, on TV, we can do alot more by being who we are, and not play games , being honest and let people know that we are not perverts. We enjoy the fem side and are in touch with it. Okay I"m rambling ...........Kristen

When and where does the "Reality" come into these shows??? We have one here in Australia where this female must choose her man but, also try to discover which of the numerous men are in fact gay! It disgusts me that TV producers think that we are so fickle and tasteless that they have to flood our viewing time with this rubbish. Thank the good Lord for CD's (music type Ladies :) ) Radio and DVD's. But gimme something in paperback or hardcover with lots of letters joined together any day!

I Bitch therefore I am! [-(

Off my soap box now.......

Didn't Aussie TV also have a "reality dating" show on which the woman was really a man?

Why do you say that, Anita? This is what I do. And in doing so, I've met quite a few very nice women over the years.

You took the words out of my mouth =D> . The only thing I wanted to add is that even if it is supposed to be comedic, I feel the more CD that is out there the more desensitized to people will be come. Kind of along the same line as violence on TV and commercials in movie theaters. The more people are exposed to it, the less they will react or even care for that matter.

I just want to hijack for a moment. All the times I have gone out, there has ALWAYS been fear. Even when my wife and I went to take goth pics, we stayed on the far side of the cemetary. BUT and a big BUT, there is always an exhileration by going out. The closest thing I can describe it as is riding a rollercoster for the first few times. You know that more than likely nothing will happen but when you get closer to the ride and see just how tall or fast it is, you start to freak. When you are on the ride, it is a mix of fear and excitement. Then when the ride is over, you just feel great :) .

OK had my say, carry on girls, you can have the thread back.

This must be the topic of discussion on the CD boards this weekend.
My husband and I talked about this show too, we both are fans of some of reality TV. Survivor and the Amazing Race, the rest we don't watch.

As for this show well I don't think it is going to do anything to further societys acceptance of the crossdresser. This show will be aimed at embarrasing the men involved. People watching will be laughing and thinking they cannot beleive these men are really doing this. I suppose there is a slight chance that one of the men could be a CD and he would love it I am sure. We all know that it will not turn any of them into a CD.

My husband will probably watch to see what he can learn and wish he was there. i will probably find something else to do on that night.
