Toe nail discoloration (Lamisil Tablets) substitute

Hi Girls:

3% of society, mostly men over 40 years of age contract a yellow like condition on the toe nails, that can be resolved with Lamisil Tablets, $900.00 for a 3 month treatment. Doctor must monitor for kidney or liver failure among other side effects.

My sports medicine doctor told me to use "Vicks Vaporub."

The treatment:

Apply Vicks or similar brand (Equate brand at Walmart), to toes that need it. Then wrap the toes and part of the foot in plastic wrap. 15"sq piece will do the trick. Then put on your sports cotton socks. You can sleep this way or wear for about 6 hours every other day during the waking hours. The wrap may slip so use a little extra wrapping if you must walk alot.

I have done this 2 times per week for 2 months and my toes that had the condition are turning pink/clear again. Happy days are here again....

I shower every day girls, this condition can be genetic. Some people are prone to get the dermatophytes more easily than others. Even if you use foot powder they can survive and get under the nail through various other ways that I refrain from talking about, ha ha LOL. Needless to say, keep the feet dry otherwise....

This truly works and is safer and obviously super cheaper than Lamisil Tablets...

Hi Darlene:

I live in Central Florida and was without power for 9 days. Two hurricanes and I am back in my home again as of last Sunday night.

Do not paint the toenails girl. Eventually, without treatment the nail can separate from the bed, yuk!!! Lightly file off any finish on the nail so the camphor will penetrate through the nail into the bed and kill the critters.

Yes as Darlene said we miss you!!! I have not had any toenail problems yet, well other than dropping a weight on them every now and then

Hope the next hurricane stays out to sea - Think you folks have had enough for this season.

Yes and no on IPL.

Yes, the treatment worked. I have some hairs that have grown back but that was to be expected. I can now actually take a safety razor and shave upward on my top lip without getting cut, there are so few hairs so I guess that is a plus. I have had 3 treatments. The first one was with the yellow handle and a setting of 5...snap snap snap. The 2nd and 3rd treatment was with the RS+s handle but no hair has grown back under my neck and we used only the Yellow handle there.

I think for men, the yellow handle for Palomar equipment does the most effective treatment. The RS+s is suppose to be better than the yellow but, for my money, I will have them do another yellow on me in January 2005 for the upper lip and a smaller lower chin area.

Still very happy with the 3 treatment results over 90 days. For people with thinner beards they can expect better results I think. Each person is going to be different. I can go about 7 hours without any real visual hairs since there are so few to see.

The blue veins that feed those hairs is still there of course, and mine is close to the surface so that makes for a little shadow after 7 hours. I have seen many women with as much. I am pleased with the results. I am only using covergirl now. That is a very thin light makeup and it covers with the help of a red lipstick blend for my "brunette" complexion.

I definitely think it's genetic... I have seen my father's toenails... not a pretty sight!! I am already starting to notice a slight yellowing on my left big toenail...

It is imperative that I keep my feet looking healthy, especially in today's bare-legged, open-toe-shoed world!

Well, I'm not a man, AND I'm under 40! But I got this on my big toe...had Lamisil...didn't know it was that expensive...WOW! (I got for mine on the good ol' NHS for £6.40) Then said big toenail promptly detached itself from my personage...a yellowing half hanging off big toenail was NOT a good look for the summer season

Was not the glamorous image I was aiming for

I won't even tell you what my toe looks like now, you may be still eating breakfast!
Thanks for the info on lamisil, wasn't really aware of the side effects, won't bother with taking them again.

A simple solution for your big toe.

Take an inexpensive medical glove, extra-large, and cut off the thumb section. Put the vicks vapoorub on the toe nail and under it at the edge. Put the Glove section on the big toe. No need for the plastic wrap. The toe is covered. A short light weight bed sock to cover the foot will help keep the latex glove section on the toe which will be tight anyway.

Gloves are available at medical supply stores and even the Wal-Mart. You can wash and reuse the "thump" section several times, saving on gloves and money.

While Lamisil can have side-effects they are rare, less that .2% of all cases and your doctor can tell well in advance if they are giving you trbl.

The main thing is to clear up the mess. I cannot tell you to put the vicks vaporub on that toe with no nail. Ooch, ouch... it may sting like a bee!!!

Seek competent medical advice. The toe can become infected and then you will really have major problems..... It is time to take it seriously..!!..

For anyone that reads this thread, the Vick's treatment has worked for me. I only have a very slight yellow horizontal line across a toe nail that is visibly moving upward to eventually be trimmed off. The bottom 3/4 of the big toe's nail is pink and clear.....yeah!!!!!
I am a happy camper once again when I look down at my nifty naturally pinked toenails....
