TV Reality TV

Post by CJ »

Hi all,

I just read, in yesterday's newspaper, that there's a new show coming to local television, either later this summer or early this fall, called "Cover Girl." Details are sketchy right now, but it will apparently be a so-called reality show that will follow the lives of a group of crossdressers (ordinary crossdressers? drag queens? transsexuals?... I just don't know yet). Unfortunately for all my unilingual anglophone sisters here, the show, it seems, will only air in French. Still, I'll keep you posted.

Love,
CJ

Oh, gawd! This one will probably set us back about 60 years in the eyes of the world. :(

AWFULLY PRETTY (UPN, New!) - The netlet is developing a new reality series which follows a group of men as they are transformed into women by their wives or girlfriends. Bruce Nash and his Nash Entertainment ("For Love or Money," "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?") are behind the project, which tracks the men as they live together in a house and are forced to live as women 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The project will also have a competitive aspect as each week the players will be put into various scenarios where they'll learn what it's like to live as a woman. Those that don't pass said tests will be eliminated, one by one, for an undetermined prize.

OMG - this could get really ugly!

The concept for the show is a wonderful idea.
But in the world of broadcast television, and especially reality
programming, I doubt there will be much in the way of any
progress.

Hi all,

I'm not one to judge or critique beforehand, but I'm thinking we have a potential disaster in the making with these two shows.

Will Cover Girl become known as Girl, Cover Yourself? Or Awfully Pretty as Pretty Awful? I hope not. Let's stay tuned.

While I agree that, in general, it is not good to pre-judge, my initial gut reaction is based on past experience. That being that, since its inception, "reality TV" has been anything BUT real and in EVERY case has been "Pretty Awful".

This opinion is that of one individual only and does not reflect upon our sponsors or any other group or individual.

There was a reality show on TV not too long ago that featured two men and two women who shared one house and had to switch genders for a couple of weeks.

I don't remember what the show was called, but there was one scene where they all went to the ballgame. One of the women who was dressed as a man was shown at the game hanging around a bunch of guys, drinking beers, cheering and howling into the camera, and having a good time. And unfortunately of course, the guys dressed as women ran into an altercation. :?

There was another scene in the show where one of the M2F's was working at an uptown Manhattan bar.

Does anyone else have any recollection of it?

Lorna,

I do remember the show - I taped it but have long since taped over it. I'm not sure of the title or which cable channel it was on - Discovery, A&E, maybe.

I remember one of the MTF CDs worked as a barmaid and the other worked at a dept store cosmetics counter. The remarks from interviewed bar customers was that the main givaway of the barmaid was her "man hands". The interviewed dept store cosmetics customers read the clerk but I don't remember if there was any one characteristic that was the giveaway. None of the dept store customers seemed to be really disturbed by the CD clerk.

I don't really remember what jobs the FTMs took, but one of them clung to the new male persona even after the show and refused to a followup interview. The other ones basically said that it was an interesting experience that gave them more insight on the other gender.

Can anyone provide more details?

Update Update: Reality show comming to TBS

He's a Lady

http://www.tbs.com/shows/hesalady

Premise:
This fall, eleven manly men will compete to become...the ultimate lady. And the winner will take home a quarter of a million dollars

I saw a promo while watching a Mel Gibson Movie "What woman want" (they happen to mention CD) in the beging of movie and the next commercial spot is for this show He's a Lady. They mention as being a kind of comedy of sort reality show.

I saw "He's a Lady" today. Even though it was slow and boring it wasn't demeaning or campy.
