yes me must punish the evil transvestites for they bring great shame onto nigeria.
unlike the people smugglers...witch doctors who claim they can give the infertile babies...by stealing newborns from hospitals...people who perform voodoo rituals involving human sacrifice....
I cringe every time I read anything coming out of Nigeria.
I was married to a Nigerian for 11 years and while he was not a fundamentalist Muslim he held many of the same misogynistic views. Over the past 15-20 years, the sharia (spelling?) laws- the fundamentalist teachings - have been replacing the civil laws. These are the teachings that say women should never be educated and allow for stoning to death of a woman who is foolish enough to get herself raped. My ex used to say that there was no such thing as homosexuality in Africa until the British brought it to the continient. Such a foolish thing to say but considering AIDS is spoken of in euphamisms the same way as TB was in the 1800s, I guess its not surprising for his to express such silliness. The people, and what miserable government they have, is just setting itself up for more misery and pain.
For Nigerians, this TV is considered not just an anomoly but an abomination (I hate that word).
Be thankful that you have the, albeit limited, freedom and acceptance you do have here in this imperfect and sometimes politically frustrating country. (maybe this article should be linked back to that other post about CD and politics)

Sad Sad to still see things like that happen in the world
Gues we have to accept people just dont like us maybe couse they dont take the time to get to know us
Maybe we should start a campaign for acceptance of CD's and TS etc
And yes Muslims hate us (worst hate mail i got were from muslims they show there true face then )
I just dont like them Sorry

Please let's be careful about sweeping generalities.
I have known many Muslims that were sweet, gentle, wholey accepting people. I've known Christians who were some of the most hateful people I've ever met, completely unaccepting of anyone or anything that did not fit their narrow view of correct and others who would do anything for someone in need.
My noting that it was the Muslim majority doing these things to the people was just because it is their fundamentalist legal structure that is being imposed. I did not mean to bash all Muslims.
I would remind everyone that OUR current "leader" adheres to a fundamental sect of Christianity.

I came by this article yesterday and I had the natural anger about the situation, If I remember there was an 8 month sentence mentioned. I dread to think if this was in one of the very strict areas that MariasGirl mentions, their laws could've given a much more dire verdict.
I'm sorry for having to say this again. Many religious and political leaders in America are taking us to this same conclusion. It's easy to lead hurt and fearful peoples down the path of their own destruction.
Nothing new is going on here. The church played a huge part in the onset of the dark ages. They did this by the inquisition. Putting the fear in people to go along and or die. They tried this with Martin Luther of Lutheran fame. They did it with Galileo. New ideas and suppositions were stopped in their tracks. New inquiry was stopped. The church and the powers that be were theatened by change.
I bring up gayness because it is on the front burner these days. It is all but proven that gayness is genetic. Soon it will be undenyable fact, just as the earth goes around the sun. When it becomes fact, what will the current leaders of the Christian right propose. Acceptance of gays into the fold. Don't bet on it. Even against abortion these people would probably in the current climate recommend a test and abortion of a defective gay fetus.
Look to the stem cell research govt. ban. But think. Have you heard any mention of shutting down fertility clinics. These clinics produce millions of viable fetuses. What becomes of these. There is no difference, life is life. Questions in the courts currently are looking at rights of these tiny units of life. The "right" is making selective judgements for all of us.
No cross-dressing school teacher would be allowed in this country if it was known she was male. This great fear is unfounded. What of all the male and the few female molestors. Maybe our children should be raised by computor. Then who will be the programmer? An engineer from India.
I'm being stupid now, but what are we really looking at in this country?
People loose their jobs only because they love female dress. As in this story from Nigeria, we are not that far from being jailed here. It is the same as civil rights. You don't have to commit a crime. We will be guilty because we dress, because we are black, because we are hispanic, because we are gay, because we don't subscribe to a particular religious doctrine, because we don't support the sanctioned political parties, and maybe only because we are alone in the night just trying to get home.
When asked how gay marriage hurts him, I heard a man on TV proclaim that pedifiles next will have protection under the law. Please tell me what one has to do with the other. Or did I not know that all gays in the public domain abuse children. I heard people at work agreeing with this man's comments from the nightly news. They were ready and willing to believe this nonsensical logic.
Please people vote for what ever you believe. No leader will be perfect for each and everyone of us. Take your best guess. I will trust all of you to do the best for you. Diversity is our strength. Kill diversity and another dark ages will be our reward. Soon we will be in the history books and our children will read of our choices. Let us hope what they read they find we helped build a better future.

And who can forget those e-mail scams!! Okay so technically those aren't necessarily from Nigeria...
But I get the gist... that's not too far off from the US. While we're not arrested for being TG, we're harrased, attacked and sometimes KILLED by random hate-mongers. In the very same land where domestic, child & animal abuse, crime, drugs, and drinking & driving continue to thrive.
