Internet Explorer does my head in!

Post by Kerri »

Hiyer,

Kerri is not a happy bunny!
IE6 is a pain. Simple things are bad enough, like my avatar will not display in IE6, it does in Firefox. The emoticons don't move either, but they do in Firefox.

IE6 keeps telling me I dont have permission to view a page! I cant download any updates. Its doing my head in. I am tempted to switch to Firefox but its not that simple. Many sites are not compatible with Firefox and display properly.

Oh how I wish I could turn the clock back. Surfing the internet in 1995 was so much simpler.

Does anyone know how to fix IE6 without resorting to a big hammer?

I would be forever grateful!

hugs

Kerri

I have IE6 with SP1 (won't try SP2)

Click on Tools on the menu bar; then Internet Options in the drop down menu

In the options window, click on advanced tab.

Scroll down to the Multimedia section
In mine I have all checked except the Don't show . . . and the Show image download placeholders

Now click the apply button; then close that window; now refresh your IE6 screen.

Note that Opera is a good web browser (opera.com)

Kerry,

I use the latest edition of firefox, and love it. No adware, no spyware, no pop ups ever.

And I have not found a problem with any sites not being compatible with Firefox and displaying in-properly.

I have said good-by to IE.

Donna,

I already have all those ticked just as you have. No joy!
I have SP-2 sadly.
Maybe Microsoft will publish a fix for SP-2.

Darlene,
I cant get Yahoo to display my avatar in Yahoo Messenger.
One or two other sites say my browser is not compatable.
I think I will bite th bullit and abandon IE6 too.
I have not tried Opera yet, I do have Netscape but Im not keen on its display of favourites, when you add one.

Thanks

Kerri

Like Darlene,I too am using the latest Firefox. I also have not found any compatibility problems including the site Alexandra posted.

Since the US Computer Emergency Response Team (USCERT) posted its recommendation that ALL users discontinue using IE due to its multitude of security flaws, I have no intention of ever going back.

there are a few things that can be done better in IE for live365 broadcasters . . . controls and uploads for instance that doesn't confuse your computer into warning you multiple times, but it is more annoyance than anything. I use netscape mostly but live365, earthlink website controls and other such things do work better for me with IE.

without a doubt IE is more apt to run slower than netscape during heavy usage periods and other odd broadband behavior.

On my home system, I'm running Windows 98 with IE 6. Sometimes when I access this forum there, I will open a thread, and the whole system will lock up, necessitating a "hard" restart (switching the computer off manually). It always seems to lock up while loading the gif of someone's avatar.

I'm typing this from a computer at my job (Win XP with IE 6) and I've never had a problem. I guess I just need a newer computer.

Jay,

My service provider suggests that you run IE 5.5 on windows 98. Claims it works better. They say IE 6 was made for XP

I am running Windows 98 sec. Edition on a Pentium 11 with 128 mb of RAM 350 MHZ. And had no problem with it other than pop ups and security.
