For a while now I have been wondering how people here choose which post and in which order they read them. I (especial since I can go a couple days with out turning my computer on) usually start at the lowest newest post and work up. I try to read every comment though some are long (no offense). however once in a while I will go directly to a post that catches my eye and I want to read it right away.

Hi all,

That's an interesting point, Jessie. I usually come here every day (or I try to, at least), so I'm never faced with a long trail of twirling icons in the margin (although sometimes, for some reason, nothing is spinning when I know, for a fact, that there are new posts--frankly, that puzzles me).

What I usually do is head to the threads in which I'm participating in a conversation of sorts. Especially to the ones that fire me up. Then, I try to look at all the new posts, especially those in the CD, SO, and Togetherness setions (I don't often go to Area 51).

I'll admit that my forum habits have changed since I became a moderator; I used to post more often and to reply a lot more than I do these days (I guess that might be a relief, to some :P ). Anyway, I try to read as much as I can; I just hope people are aware I'm still there, even though I might not reply that often. I'm still there, and I'm still learning from all of you.

As some of you may have noticed, I'm more enthusiastic about the social and psychological (and, yes, philosophical) underpinnings of gender and transgenderism than I am about the "mechanics" of it all (i.e., fashion, makeup, outings, etc.). This is just where my main interests lie. So I'll tend to zoom in on posts that have to do with these matters. It's different for others. Vive la différence, n'est-ce pas?

Another good way to view the newest posts is to click on the "View posts since last visit" rubric in the upper right-hand corner of the main index page. It will, indeed, show you a list of the most recent ones since your last visit.

Happy reading and happy posting, all!

Love,
CJ

Like CJ, I tend to start with the posts where I've started or involved in the conversation.
I then start with the most interesting topics and work my way through , unfortunatly I have missed a few good ones at the start and found them later on when I've had more time .

Same as CJ, looking at topics I'm interested in then the new ones. I start at the bottom of the forums in gaming chat, then work up to the top :)

Hi girls,

Many times when I come here, I am participating in a thread, and I am anxious to read it. I usually start by going to "view your posts". This will show me all the threads where I have posted. I usually go through these in order of how interested I am in each thread.

After that I go to "view posts since you last visit" This will show me all the threads that are new since my last visit. or have new posts to them. I also go through these in order of how much they interest me.

Then I will go through each discussion group, because for some reason either the program misses or I sometimes miss news posts, which really drives me crazy. I generally look at the group and see what the last post was, and the time and only enter it if I see a new post.

I don't work, so I have a lot of time on my hands. Generally speaking I read most of the new threads. I must admit though that I usually don't post in the welcome group because it requires a really repetitive message and makes me feel like it is hard to be sincere when I am telling everyone the same thing. And it seems many others are much better at it anyway.

And even being so methodical about it, I still sometimes miss posts. Weird? Huh? Anyway, I love reading about all of your lives, your interests, your fears, your trials and tribulations, your hope and mostly, your love. I will always believe that this place saved my life. I try to give of myself, but I always feel like I get more than I give. I love you all.

Love always,
Elizabeth

I'm similar to Elizabeth, only check the posts since last visit first, then my posts, then go through and see if I missed anything. Especially if I screw up and close the window and have to start all over again.

Hi Jessie,

I generally like to follow the flashing diamonds to see where the new posts are. Otherwise I will glance at the title of a specific thread if I read throiugh but did not yet repsond.

Hi all,

As the number of post has grown, I went from clicking on "View Posts Since Last Visit" to looking in the following subsections in usually the following order:

Fun Stuff while CDing

Off Topics

Coping For CDs

The Gaming Place

Fashion And Beauty

Do You Know How I Feel

My Beginnings

I do look in the other subforums, but not quite as regularly.

When I look in a subforum, I generally look at the oldest thread updated since my last visit and work my way up to the most recent.

This is the way that I read the posts here. A lot of the time I have other Firefox tabs open, checking my Yahoo mail, the photo gallery, a shopping site, or some other website.

I click on "view last post" and start from the bottom up -- a quick in/out for me. I avoid forums that don't have this kind of quick navitation.

Wow I must be the one who is different. I usually start reading threads from the top and work my way down. Although, I choose the forums pretty much randomly.

Hi Jessie and all
Whe I first joined I stopped in every night and read everything, and posted where I thought i had some good input. Over the summer I was putting in LOOONG days at work, and was lucky to pop in once a week, so just got to read a few messages that looked really interesting, kept saying to myself I'll reply later, never did. Now that summer is done, I'm trying to play catch-up, and read the stuff I missed out on. Hope that helps. I guess the best way to get your postings read is make the title "soapy" sounding

I love this Seinfeld like thread. "It's thread about nothing" :)

I read just like Calina. :)
