Wig Shampoo

Post by Teilani »

I would really like to wash my wig, but the directions say to use wig shampoo, but I was wondering if my plain old Suave coconut shampoo would do just as well.

go with the recommended wig shampoo. Especially if it is a synthetic wig. Regular shampoo causes static, for one thing. Wig shampoo has special conditioners for the material used in the wig.

Woolite works great........................ Use conditioner as you would with your own hair to maintain luster (or lustre -- depending on what side of the pond you are on)........

If you want to be on the safe side, buy wig shampoo at the place where you bought your wig. They have a vested interest in your wig looking good after cleaning, so they will not sell you something that would make it look bad. The only disadvantage to this is that they may over-charge you somewhat, compared to a comparable product you might buy from a discount drugstore.

Thanks for the advice. My wig only cost me $35 but it's still a very quality wig. It's a Jean Renau brand according to the box, a shoulder length reddish auburn color with bangs.

Hi Teilani,

Your Jean Renau brand wig, shoulder length, auburn in color, with bangs sounds cute!
Take care,

Thank you very much Jamie Ann :)

Not to brag, but it's such an adorable wig too. I bought it at Forever Young, a wig store in my mall around Halloween. I was in total drab mode, and the girl who helped me out matched the color to my facial hair. I'm a natural blonde, but my beard comes out red.

If I can remember back, I believe she said I could wash it by simply rinsing it, wringing out the water then putting it up to dry.
