It says something interesting that people would make such extraordinary effort with such perishable media. Then again, I suppose it's surprisingly common: from ice sculpture to decorating cakes, we seem to want to leave a mark in things that don't last.

Everything's ephemeral. Some things more so than others. 'Look upon my works, ye mighty, and tremble....' Creating in a particularly ephemeral medium is itself a form of comment.
