Stunned My Father.

Last year around September I sent a framed picture of myself to my Mother and Father with a message of my love for them on the back. Well I was speaking to Mum on the phone the other day and she just about wet herself laughing when she told me this little gem....

My Dad has been on holidays from work and decided to help Mum out by doing some housework while she was at work. As he was pottering around their bedroom he found a framed picture of a woman. When Mum had come home from work in the afternoon, Dad had asked who the picture was of. He knew I had sent a picture to them, but he couldn't believe I would send a picture of a strange female to them, without an explanation as to who she was. Mum asked Dad who he thought it was. Dad replied with "Don't have a clue, but she looks glamourous". At that Mum explained that it was his son. Dad's response "Well I'll be buggered!" Mum said he was just priceless and he puffed his chest out and said "WOW! Makes you so proud of him doesn't it?"

Mum and Dad have known about my CDing for a while now but have never seen me dressed prior to this picture. So everything my Mum has told me has just blown me away. Especially considering Dad has a damned good eye for picking up on such things.

Recently Mum explained to my older sister about my CDing and she just said "If that is what makes him happy then go for it". Mum and I are planning on a Girls night out when I next get the chance to fly down to see them (Just south of Sydney (3,600 kms away)). Mum said she may find it difficult introducing me to her girlfriends as her daughter as they all know Mum has 2 boys and 2 girls, but I insisted to Mum that I would be insulted if she ever introduced me as other than her son

. Even after transition, as I always have and always will be her son in our hearts, I will just look different.

Hi Hayley,

I think it's wonderful what you've done by sending the picture. That was very cute idea.

It's wonderful you told them both. I don't think I'll be telling my father anything. I believe eventually he would have accepted it, but I like the feeling of him looking me as his son.

Which is a nice segue to what you said about your mom. I think that was a wonderful answer and you probably made her forever by saying it. That was a wonderful response.

I think your parents are great too!!!

You didn't fall far away from the tree either so the world is good.

BTW I think that's the softest, most femme avatar I've seen of you yet.

What a wonderful story! See, in reference to Elizabeth's post about it now being easier to have empathy and have the tears well up, well me too. I am getting to a point were if I don't cry at least a couiple of times a day, I wonder if something is wrong.

That is such a nice story, Haley. I guess you DID tell them about it long before you sent that picture, so it wasn't a complete shock to your dear ol' dad, but it still sounds like it was a surprise. I wonder if I'll ever go out with one of my three sisters (mom is gone), but it's great to hear about you and your mother planning to go out.
