We used to air that show at the station I worked at. I really hated having to tape it or watch when it aired. We finaly dropped the show when we got better content and wanted to become a better station than just anouther boob tube. Now it does not air at all in my area. I belive Jerry Springer has only anouther year or two on his contract and then he quted saying he wants to run for politics. If you did not know before his show he was the mayor of cincinaty. So I think even he is tired of the show to.

JER-RY!! JER-RY!! JER-RY!! JER-RY!! JER-RY!! JER-RY!! JER-
OK, I'll stop.
I don't watch with any regularity, but nor do I find it particularly offensive. I just find it fascinating that people with such screwed-up lives would choose to air their personal problems on a world-syndicated show. I agree though, those so-called TVs give the rest of us a bad name.

First it is hard to believe anyone with any degree of self-respect or self awareness would either host or even appear on that sespool of a show.
Second, I don't often watch, usually only in passing as I channel surf, but have you ever looked closely at the people in the audience??? I would wager most don't have or possibly never have had a job or for a lot of them a bath!!!!!
That show runs on the car/train/ plane wreck theory, you don't want to look but it is almost humanly impossible not too. For my input it is without a doubt the most discusting thing that has ever been on television.
To think it is possible that some of those "people" actually find their way to the polls and vote or even operate motor vehicles.

The thing is Virgina, as I have Jerry Springer interviewed of CNN one time, he says it is just entertainment to the looest commen demonator. After why is Rush Lymbagh on the radio as Blow hard who is also a races bigget. People listen or watch because well I do not know why and I will probley never know why. But then why do so many people watching wrestling on TV when they them selves have said it is entertainment but so many think it is real. It just can not be answered by a simple thought or quest.
The one thing I will say and I say it to everyone who does not agree with what is on TV or the Radio YOU HAVE THE CHOOSE you are choosing to to watch or listen to what ever it is to turn around and then complain about is your own fault.
Sorry I just have some strong issues with people complaining about tv. I am so so sorry

Jessie,
I am throwing caution to the wind and assuming that since your "rant" followed my post I just know that you were NOT in any way inferring that I was for censorship in any form. Well I take that back, I was going to post this somewhere else but this will do nicely:
Does anyone know how I can get about two minutes with any, any of these folks that create and put these "worms" and/or viruses on the net?? I am not asking for much, only two minutes alone with them preferably one at a time - for those of us who have to fight these certins I think I would like to make a dent in their population. If this is censorship then so be it!!!
Virginia
PS for sake of brevity I would only need one minute if Gee would like to accompany me!

My problem with anything dealing with television, and this has to do with my rant nothing else, is that we get these IDIOTS who call up and complain about what we are or might be airing on the station. I love working at the TV station it is like my second home and I some times take it personal when someone says bad things about it. The odd thing is just because we I work a Fox affilated station they think that anything that has fox on it is our fault. Like the fox CABLE news station or Fox Sports Northwest (local NW fox cable sports station) it's our fault when what they want to watch is not on. It just gets my goat and well when we used to run Jerry Springer we used to get angry phone calls on both sides. Such why did you put it on that time or why is not on or even worse. I know I could just ignore it but that is my second home. Spend a lot of time there.
OK Jessie take a chill pill get ahold yourself, Ok I am better sorry about that this is not directed at any one just me being a little defense a little sorry.

If someone shouts Fire! in a crowded theater (when there is no fire), or some pimply, antisocial nerd-wannabe slips a piece of code into my OS that executes and renders the system unbootable, it isn't free speech. If Howard Stern, Jerry Springer, or Rush Limbaugh offend on the air (short of obscenity), it is free speech. But, as long as I have more than one station (or can at least turn the TV or the radio off), I have a quiet, yet most effective, means of protest. Sponsors do attend to their bottom lines.

Here's how it really works.
The A. C. Nielsen company has a network of rated watchers. They do a demographic survey to choose who they will ask to be rated watchers. There is a nationwide survey and they do a survey in the larger markets and in some selected typical smaller markets.
The rated watcher gets a gizmo hooked up to their TV. The gizmo monitors which station is being watched, or if the television is turned off. The gizmo is expensive, so they don't have that many of them out there.
If you have a gizmo, your television "vote" counts. If you don't, it doesn't.
It's that simple.
Notice that the gizmo can not monitor how many people (if any) are actually watching the television. A lot of people just leave it turned on all day while they go about their chores in another room. The gizmo can't tell if the whole family is watching, or just one person, or no one. If you have multiple TVs, the gizmo is only on one, and it's probably the main one in the living room.
So unless you have a Nielsen gizmo on your TV, the only way you can protest what's on television is to write to
1. The advertisers (that means that you need to know the corporation that makes the product that is being advertised)
2. The station
3. The network
4. The FCC (if you can make a case that the program is obscene or inappropriate for the audience at that hour)
Fortunately, big advertisers and networks are sensitive to public opinion and have websites with email addresses.
It's a lot of work, but it can be done. Viewers have gotten programs changed. In the case of Jerky Sprinkler (oops, sorry for the typo giggle), viewer complaints did get him to nix the fist fights. He hired more bouncers and they try to restrain the guests before they land the first blow.
By the way, Jerky's "guests" are actor wannabes. They are handed scripts to play, and they're professionally made up for the show. About half of them are professionally costumed as well. I know this from a friend who was a guest. No way are there that many morons who air their private family quarrels on national TV.
Also, Jerky's chances at politics are limited. He recently tried a Senate run, and he didn't get on the ballot. The major party he belongs to consistently has a platform plank endorsing gay and trans rights and his show is widely perceived as inconsistent with that. Of course, he is persistent. He's a lot smarter than the show portrays, but for a serious liberal politician, that show is a liability. He tries to blow it off, but I don't think even he realizes how many people take it seriously.

Rikki, that is odd because I heard that he will only run for a senate seat when is finaly off the air. I think he relizes that he can not have show on (against politcal campaingn laws as such) and be in polics. I have heard him speak outside his show and over all he is an inteligent man I just think he is getting paid a but load of money for now.
Now the neilson thing I know a lot about those. Here in my local town we do not have them some several thousand people are sent TV diares that they are to right in what show they watch at what time and what station. This help station like the one I work for decied how much to charge for air time for a particualre show or time of day. Such as daytime on our station is a whole lot cheaper than what is called pime access (5p-8p) This is just some info that I know first hand.

I'm with you. I DESPISE that show for its potrayal of our community and refuse to allow that show to air on my television set.
I sincerely hope that your wife doesn't take the show seriously! Just remind her that Jerry Springer should be taken for what it is - TRASH, and not some educational source.
If she wants education about the CD/TG comminity, she's better off picking up books or magazines, or the internet for serious articles written by experts who have actually researched and regognize us as people and not whores. Even shows such as Oprah or 20/20 can be educational when the topic of CDing is discussed.
Live it. Love it. OWN IT.

I have also heard that he is an intelligent man. Various things I read about him when I researched my post called him a progressive. But sometimes, intelligence can get the best of anyone. In this case, I think the show turns his natural political allies against him.
But at least, I'm sure he's doing OK financially from the show.
That is a useful info update. Thanks, Jessie. That would provide useful info for the TV industry. But it doesn't provide Ms. Concerned Viewer a way to "vote" against shows she finds obnoxious. Here in my local town we do not have them some several thousand people are sent TV diares that they are to right in what show they watch at what time and what station.

True, Rikki, they don't hold national elections to determine whether a show is to be renewed or canceled; it's a little like randomly drawing 500 ballots out of a million: only the drawn votes get counted, but that doesn't mean that the initial participation of all voters wasn't influential, since 500 randomly-drawn ballots should be fairly representative. Obviously, a few well-placed emails, calls, letters, etc. will have more direct influence, but the holes in the dike are many and my fingers are few..

Celia, I wish you were right. It would work so well that way. But unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Because nobody really knows how many people are actually watching television, or what they're watching.
