My Sport Has ARRIVED
Well girls, those that don't know, I am a powerlifter (and good at it, but that is another story).Anyway I just got my issue of our latest magazine, "Powerlifting." On the cover in all his radiant glory is a guy who is the first person in the world to certifiablely squat 1200 pounds- that is no misprint - 1200 pound squat, granted he weights probably 400 pounds himself, but 1200 pound squat, --not my point however
HE IS WEARING A SKIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, I think it is actually a kilt, but still I showed the cover to my training partner and she said it could be a skirt then she said I should ask him and while I am at it ask him if he is a crossdresser! Yeah, right! I may be good at what I do, but I am not nuts!!! You don't walk up to a guy that squats 1200 pounds and say, "Hey, I like your skirt and by the way are you a crossdresser?"
Having some fun now!!!

Hi Virginia,
Oh my... the things we learn about each other.
If you said you were a power lifter before I'm sorry I missed it. I think it's wonderful that you have a sport you like so much.
What is the max you've power lifted? I saw this one gentleman who looked like Erkel and he power lifted mega wait. It was enough to have camera crews there (which is how I found out on the news). I think the perception is that you have to be muscle bound to be a power lifter, but seeing that little clip changed my point of view.
That cover of your magazine was very interesting for sure.
I think you're right. His secret is safe because like the joke above, who's going to bother him?

Beauty,
Thanks for asking. I have been competiting in this sport for about 16 years. I currently hold several world records and several National and American records. I was the first person in my age and weight class ( a lady never tells either
) to bench press over 400 pounds. I have a training partner who is a GG that also holds world records and at her age 40+ and weighing in at 132 pounds she bench presses over 300. We are both drug free - neigher of us have ever taken any illegal drugs.
I plan to keep lifting until they find me crumpled on the floor from trying to lift a lot more than I should
Oh, I compete as a male - but I am sure you guessed that!
Love ya,
Virginia

Hi virginia,
That's some awsome records you hold there girl.
I do so admire people like yourself, who with such dedication and hard work reach the pinicle of their choosen sport. You must be very proud of yourself and your achivements and rightly so.
When I was younger, I used to do road race cycling, anything from ten to a hundred mile time trials. Training, was cycling up to 400 miles some weeks.
But alas, I lacked that utter conviction and sheer dedication to take it all the way. Now, I can't cycle a mile without getting out of breath.
I do hope I didn't offend you earlier in this thread, with my weird British sense of humour and if I did I'm sorry.
Congratulations on all you have achieved so far and for what is still yet to come.

Thanks, girls for the nice comments. I love my sport, it has its warts, but we have to overlook things like that and carry on. I had a very good friend that I use to compete against and at a national meet several years ago he came out on the platform for his third squat attempt and one of the judges noticed a "crease" in his lifting suit that was not suppose to be there, checked his gear and he had on a very illegal piece of equipment. I was almost as devistated as he was. Needless to say he was thrown out of the meet, I went on to win which I would have anyway, but I still have not gotton over the fact that he would do that in a National meet and it was an attempt to beat me. I have not seen him since, he still lifts but not competitively.
Onoe other thing, just in passing, and it drives my training partner crazy. My (I guess soon to be ex) does not suport me at all! IN all the meets I have gone to she has been to two and both of those she would not stay and watch me lift. She goes out shopping or what ever. My sad story
Anyway like I said I love the sport and have made many great life long friends - Wonder how they would react if they knew about Virginia????
Moveing right along!
Love you all,
Virginia
