Rikki's First Laser Treatment

Hi everyone,

I just had my first laser session last night. And to be honest, I love it!

My laserologist is an R.N. named Valerie. She asked me to stop her if it hurt (and I did!) She turned the intensity down. And she was very gentle. I've asked for her again for my next session.

My face stung during the evening session, but by the time I went to bed, it felt fine. Woke up this morning, no pain, no redness. It felt like a normal hairy face, but when I shaved, zip! A lot less hair to shave. The shave took about 1/3 as much time as normal.

She thinks 5 sessions and I should be hairless. Wow! I can't wait for my next session!!!!

Rikki,
When I posted earlier about considering the treatments, some of our sisters mentioned some type of skin deading lotion prior to the treatment. I did not see you mention it, what did you experience and do you think it would help with the "pain?"

Yes, they gave me "numbing cream" which I used. The nurse said that she almost wished her patients wouldn't use it, because she wants to know when the laser hurts (so it doesn't burn). I didn't. burn--guess my nerves are nice and sensitive!

YAY!!!

I believe you've read on the forum about my laser treatments. You are going to be so happy. Not shaving is just the coolest thing EVER!

The topical cream I use is Ela-Max. I apply it as I'm leaving for an appointment and all the way up to when I walk in. It helps, it helps, it helps. I made the mistake of not using it once. . . just once!

How far apart are you treatments going to be? I hope more and more TG'd people do this. One reason is selfish, so I can have more people to talk about it with.

The second reason is because of how you'll feel not having to worry about facial hair growing.

As most of you know I started in late July 2003 and I went to my 12th treatment in January of this year. My last treatment was after a three month break from visiting (having a treatment) and there were only a few hairs to laser.

Please, please keep us updated. In about 2 weeks you're going to have a feeling that you'll soon have all of the time. Your face is going to feel super soft with no signs of growth.

I am considering the laser treatment, but I am somewhat confussed, (no comments - I know I am easily confused) anyway, they told me on the phne when I called $125.00 per treatment that I would take two and possibly only three treatmetns to do my face. Are you girls saying that this is an on going process, I mean 10 - 12 treatments, not that it isn't worth it, but can get expensive and there are some summery pumps that I have my eye on!!

Seriously I went to NUVO International. Big spread at the local expesive mall.

Beware: prices vary a lot. I think my personal pricing machine was set to GOUGE!

But I"m not complaining. Just shop around.

All I can suggest is read up on the various types of lasers used, power applied, etc.

Some lasers are not as effective as others.

I'd have to do the electrolysis thing because I have as many grey hairs as black.

How far apart are you treatments going to be? 8 weeks or 4 weeks?

Now that I'm done with my treatments and I've read from others, I've heard that going every 4 weeks could be a waste of the visits. I've heard lots of gals, who are no longer going because there's really no hair left for them to be treated, that they recommend 8 weeks too. You will have a full growth return, but the advantage is the hair from two waves of growth will grow back versus just one wave of hair growth.

I will tell you that I went every 4 weeks for the first 6 treatments or so, but that was because I paid for all the treatments upfront. It was a little over 1k. So I kind of felt like, why not go every 4 weeks, but back then I can say I didn't truly appreciate hair cycles(what I had been calling waves).

I hope my posts are reading like a busy body, I just so want someone to talk to about it, so I may be kind of doing overkill.

I'm still overjoyed happy for you!!!!!!
