Useful? Objectively speaking? :-k Better you ask someone who has bet his last dollar on the idea - I'm just engaging in casual conversation. :)

I'll just put another spin on this discussion-

Perhaps I'm the product of 2 souls that God has moulded into one , two people very much in love in a previous life that did not want to part.
Sent back as an individual that can not be separated but showing characteristics of both constituants throughout life.

This would explain why I was so happy and contented as a child , why I'm happy to be on my own and do things alone , why everything went against me when I was looking for a relationship.

This post has been moved once already. If you ask me, it needs to be moved again. Kinda has that Mordor feel to it, ya ask me.

Look, when you get right down to it, there's no proof that crossdressing exists, either. Oh, sure, anyone can put on women's clothes, and they do that down at the Lion's annual picnic. Guys play softball in ridiculous dresses and outlandish makeup.

But like 95% of the male population, they do not understand why anyone would do this for any other reason than a "joke." It is not part of their inner experience to feel anything else about the matter. To paraphrase Darleen, they look inside themselves, and they see nothing "useful" about this practice. It has no meaning for them, period.

All of us know that it is VERY real to us, don't we? It may be good or bad, but it has meaning, and we can't deny that it does. Can we explain it? Obviously, we act it out, but there is no objective reason for us to do this. It is easy to dismiss us as very foolish and deluded people, especially if one doesn't personally know any crossdressers.

But speaking for myself, my inner world is very rich and meaningful around this, and I do learn things from whoever "Anita" is. I certainly didn't learn these things in the 49 years before "she" appeared, so I have a definite before and after.

My experiences with possible reincarnation sagas are the same as my CDing. I can't explain them, but I can't deny that they have meaning for me. Four times I have had very strong images suddenly appear in my mind, and I "knew" the story behind them, complete with strong feelings that went with those stories. I am used to making up stories--I'm a songwriter. These images had nothing in common with "making things up," and I cannot will them to happen.

Are they useful? For me, they have been. But I cannot persuade any of you that you "should" have these experiences, any more than I could persuade you that you "should" crossdress, or that everyone is a potential crossdresser.

I think we have to respectably agree to disagree on what we find meaningful and useful in this life, and let it go at that.

The idea of reincarnation cannot be proven or disproven, so where our souls(spirit, life force, etc) comes from, and what happens to it after we die, just depends on your personal beliefs. Trying to argue one way or the other is moot. That being said, I have a theory about reincarnation which would explain the math part of it, as well as why some seem to have past lives and others do not. It is just a possible explanation which helps me wrap my head around something that, really, no one can understand, and it makes me feel better.

I was raised Catholic, and was taught that God always was, and always will be. What else in the universe cannot be created or destroyed? Energy. Ok so maybe God is energy. God made us in his image, so maybe our life force is energy. Imagine a pool of water(energy), and you dip a bucket in there and scoop some out(a person's soul). then when that soul dies, it is returned back to the pool(pour the water back into the pool). Now when you scoop another bucket of water, you could scoop up some of the same water(energy) that was in the first bucket, or none of it, or portions of water from many previous bucketfulls. There is no reason that all of the pool of energy needs to be in buckets, so that would explain the population increase. This explanation would also explain why some people seem to have one past life, and others multiple past lives, and some no past life.

Anyway, there it is.

Thank you, Celia. You made your point in a much more graceful way than I would have done. The point was the same one, and I'm glad you got here first.

Alexandra wrote:quote: . . . to something they might have fallen for because of faulty evidence

If people were told in advance that there was no evidence in support of reincarnation the very first time they ever heard of it, would reincarnation be as popular as it is today?

No matter what I do -- using the soft shoe tip-toe and feathers method or a thump with a billy club, the reaction from believers are the same -- we're party poopers, negative, et al. Skeptics like me have heard it all before and we're ALWAYS in dangerous waters. Facts are simply not as fun as fantasy. I'm not stopping you from believing, so just go right ahead. Its a free country -- as long as you don't kill the bearer of bad news.

Many of you would jump in and question my posts if I (and a number of other believers) carried out a lengthly discussion thread about my belief in UFO spotting frogs. Yet, both UFO-spotting frogs and reincarnation have exactly the same amount of facts supporting them. (none).

Now back to the topic at hand . . . (I did research to confirm this)

There are reincarnation believers who say that people who return in another life with a physical defect or a major illness -- lets say Downs Syndrome or cancer -- are paying for a transgression in a past life.

So, if believers are correct about reincarnation, then it must be pretty much true that cancer patients of today must be paying for for something awful they did in a previous life. Right?
Hi Alexandra,

Normally I would have sent this via PM, but others should understand this too. So this is no entirely to you, but lucky you... you inspired me to write the rest. Everyone does have the right to hold their tongue or keep their fingers from typling in the non-Mordor areas of the forum and reopen/start a topic in Mordor. Especially when they've stated their feelings once about a topic that could be debated.

Challenging others is not for Non-Mordor part of the forum at all, unless maybe someone needs personal help and may be endangering themselves. I will probably split this thread again to make sure the topic stays what the thread owner intended it to be a topic to find out, "Hey, what do you think about re-incarnation?" and not "Hey, what do you think about re-incarnation and lets debate." Wrong part of the forum and though I could be wrong, I don't think it is what the author of the thread intended the thread to be. :?

This is a very interesting thread and I like to read what others think about the idea. Like Kerri, I wanted to contribute, but then became afraid to touch this with a ten foot pole. So instead I had to moderate because the thread became a debate instead of an off topic discussion to see what members thought about re-incarnation. I'll fix that now though.

Almost all the posts I've read have been pretty nice, but some have challenged others thoughts about something interesting.
***huh***
Going forward any posts in this thread that aren't just statements about the way they feel will be moved to Mordor.

For those who go, "I don't see anything controversial at all here?" Request access to Mordor and maybe you'll agree with why it was moved there....twice. #-o

Girls,

I can assure you all that I raised the idea of past lives because it appealed to me and the girl who introduced me to the subject is sure in her mind that she has lived before. She is experiencing life for the first time as a male. She also knows the reason that she is male this time and is convinced that this is the reason for her gender issues.

I am happy to accept her beliefs at face value as I am happy for people to follow different faiths than me, have different hobbies than me, have different tastes in music, film, books, cars, friends and lifestyle than me. She is not hurting a sole by her beliefs and the thought that just perhaps all this gender confusion will be set right the next time around appeals to my desires.

I also have no problem with some of the girls here (my sisters) expressing their problem with following this idea of past lives. In fact I have enjoyed every response and greatly appreciate the thought that has gone into each one.

I enjoy threads concerning favorite panties too! Guess I am easily pleased.

Hope I haven't caused any angst by this thread.

(next time will concentrate on a panty question)

Love you all,

Jan

Hi Jan,

Panty questions aren't all you can ask in the non-Mordor areas. !!tongue!! If I'm reading your post right are you saying this was more of a topic you'd like to read debates on?

If so I can move it to Mordor now. Please let me know. :)

Dear Beauty,

I was being a little flippant with the panty comment - sorry!

No I only meant that I did not mean for the thread to upset anyone.

I don't really believe it has. It was definitely meant as a fun thing to ponder. I know that different beliefs can cause conflict but hope that the girls respect one onother enough to live and let live. After all we girls are a little outside the square ourselves.

Love,

Jan

Sorry Aeryn.

I have no idea why I said you have to wait an "official" 30 days. You have access now.

I'm really sorry about that. I need to loosen the girdle more often. :)
