Robot Chicken on Adult Swim

Post by Lorna »

Has anyone caught this show? It's a 15-minute sketch show which is part claymation & part doll/action figure animation. It's on the Cartoon Network on Sunday nights at 11:30 pm. I must say though - it's one of the funniest shows I have seen on TV in a very long time!! rotf

This past Sunday, the show featured a sketch with dueling Michael Jacksons - the 1983 Michael Jackson versus the 2005 Michael Jackson! Towards the end of their scuffle, a child pulled out a gun. They did the classic Star Trek VI bit, where each Michael was saying, I'm the real Michael! Shoot him!"

Then the '83 Michael Jackson says "There's no time. You'll have to shoot us both." The crowd decided that he was in fact the real Michael Jackson.

Anyway the kid shoots them both! rotf rotf rotf

But they can and will spoof anyone and anything in this show. Another cute sketch they did from another episode was when Lex Luthor, Cobra from GI Joe, the bad guy from Thundercats, and Skeletor were carpooling to work & struck in traffic. Skeletor is breaking wind in the car & saying "Oh that was a good one!" 2 seconds later Lex luthor is waving the air & says "Ugh! My eyes are burning!" at Skeletor's "SBD".

A few minutes later threy look over at the car in the next lane & the passengers in the car are Superman, Lion-O, GI Joe, and He-Man. They want to cut over because the other lane is moving. But they scream out "No, don't let them in front of us!" rotf

And of course there was the episode with the Peanuts sketch where Marcie & Peppermint Patty were lovers. And also the Cabbage Patch Kids coming to life & ganging up on Chucky from the Child's Play movies!

This show is so hilarious!! =D> ..rofl..

If it weren't for Adult Swim, I'd probably kill my television.

Ooh yeah, I love Robot Chicken. I try to catch it every week along with the Venture Brothers. I love just how random everything is on RC, some things just come out of nowhere.

As I understand it, RC was inspired by the "Twisted Mego Theatre" comics they used to print in Toyfare magazine. Those stories were always acted out using assorted dolls and action figures. Looking back, it seems like transferring the idea to television was a natural evolution. I haven't seen but a couple of complete episodes, though I've caught clips from several. The carpooling sketches are funny. I liked the "Pimp My Sister" bit (though it was a bit crude). I don't much care for the real "Surreal Life" show, but the parody they did with Vince Neil, Gary Coleman and Ron Jeremy appearing in "Lord of the Rings" was too funny.

omg RC is soo funny, I just watched last night. It's sad but adult swim is like the only channel I watch, I mean literally I haven't changed the channel in like a couple of years now.

Believe it or not my daughter found it first because she's into Anime big time. She and I watch Full Metal Jacket, Ghost in the Shell, Inuyasha and she got me to watch RC and it was so funny I cracked up and nearly peed my pants! Sorry for the graphic but it's true! We all must be twisted about the same degree if we're watching that stuff! Tee hee!

hehe don't worry Kay your secrets safe with me  It's easy to get sucked into those shows. Especially the ones like Inuyasha that always have an ongoing story, I sort of think of them as like cartoon version soap operas. Also, talk about twisted, I don't know why, but I find alot of the anime villians very sexy. I am soo in love with Seshomaru.

I know I'm crazy :P, and it's just a cartoon but I can dream can't I

You sound like my daughter! Inuyasha is her all time fave! In fact, I currently re-doing her room in Anime stuff. My husband laughs because I know all of these character names. My daughter and I have decided to go to a cosplay anime convention this fall and dress up. She's going as Edward on Full Metal Alchemist and I'm going as Lust. It should be a riot! If we get any good pics taken I'll post some on here! I haven't actually put any kind of profile or pics here and I've been here forever. Maybe it's time!

Oh how kewl! Now I want an Inuyasha room too hehe. Oh I'll bet the cosplay convention will be a ton of fun. I have never been to one, but really really want to go to one, partly cause I love anime, and partly cause it's a convienent excuse to dress up of course  . Be sure to have a wonderful time, if you do get some pictures I would really love to see.

I guess it seems natural that the only anime that I like is Ranma 1/2.

Oh Venture Brothers is one of my faves. The monarch is such a goof, I love how he hates Dr Venture for no real reason other than being he his arch nemesis. I've always wondered too, is Monarchs girlfriend supposed to be like transgendered? She definately looks female, but that voice is just so manly that I can't help but wonder.

I've wondered the same thing too, with her deep voice! I also wonder if Dr. Girlfriend is a T-girl... :-k

Until "Robot Chicken" came along, "Venture Bros" was the only program on the Adult Swim comedy lineup I could watch. The rest of that block just doesn't seem funny to me. I generally enjoy the Action stuff more, with my recent favorite being "Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex". That show's got some definite TG themes, as pertains to identity and conformity, though they're not always on the surface. I've been listening to the soundtrack album of late, and there's a song called "Beauty is within us". I'll post the lyrics below.

Song Title: beauty is within us
Performed by: Scott Matthew
Lyrics by: Chris Mosdell
O mother dear
Look what you've done
To your forlorn and once beloved son
Why was I born at all?
O mother dear
I'm such a freak
A mutant man, a woman underneath
Why was I born at all?

It's you I blame for all the shame
This anguish and this aching
The mirror turned against the wall
Myself despised, forsaken

*You say, "Beauty is within us, your mother knows"
"There's a beauty that's within us, just like a rose"
You say, "beauty is within us, so let it grow"
But it's grown so dark and ugly

O mother dear
I curse you so
For breathing life into your wretched son
Why were you born at all?
O mother dear
I love you so
O please forgive this anger in my soul
Without you I'm alone

It's me who's been eternally damned
Trapped inside this cage, a ruined man
All damaged and depraved

O mother dear
This misery
Has settled like a stain upon my skin
- a vast unspoken sin

And my mistake is much too late
But your mistake was trusting
That out of grief, a goodness comes
And love comes out of lusting

*You say, "Beauty is within us, your mother knows"
"There's a beauty that's within us, just like a rose"
You say, "beauty is within us, so let it grow"
But it's grown so dark and ugly

You say, "Beauty is within us, your mother knows"
"There's a beauty that's within us, just like a rose"
You say, "Beauty is within us, so let it grow"
But it's grown so dark I can not see you anymore

"O beauty is within us, mother knows"
"O beauty is within us, like a rose"
"O beauty is within us, let it grow"
O mother dear, let me out of here!
