No chance of support at work

We were watching a music video clip in the lunchroom at work yesterday , I dont know who the artist was or the name of the song but the singer turns into a girl at the end of the videoclip.

The guys were interested in the band until the last bit occured , then the Bogans of biggotry raised their ugly remarks.

Well I thought we had long past that sort of thing , if they cant accept a pop-band transforming then what hope would "I" have comming out to them.

Regardless, you're right. Even if what I said above is true, it sounds like they aren't too open, fearful, or ignorant to gender "stuff". It's a good thing you found out if you were thinking of saying something about being TG'd.

I don't think this should be a deterrent necessarily, but I do think it helped you see where some of them are coming from a little better.

It's not a lot of comfort, but many times people will make more effort to understand when it's one of their own that's involved. I'm not saying these guys would come around immediately, but most people don't think they know anybody "who's like that." It's easy to ridicule something that happens out there in the world, that you don't have any familiarity with at all.

The guy who made the particular remark is from an area on the far outskirts of the city ( like a very small country town ) I believe they are very set in their ways and he once told me a story of him and his mates kicking people out of their local pub because they dont conform to their ideal standards .

He refers to a pop singer as a f***head , personaly I think that name would best describe his bigoted community.


My boss has had disagreements with this guy as well (on the pub issue) , he's got a good attitude and says " EACH TO THEIR OWN "

As Beauty said "Collective testerone -Kills!" It sort of feeds on itself. I would be willing to venture a guess that if these guys were separated from each other and put into "educational" units they would come to realize "things are not always what they seem."

You may have seen me from time to time refer to what I call " herd mentality ' and there is an abundance of people who collectively unwittingly bundle themselves into this category. Maybe it stems from the old adage of 'safety in numbers ' but the majority of 'the herd' believe that if everyone else is doing it or saying it then it must be right.

The 'herd mentality' leads people to echo other peoples opinions and would have us believe that in fact it's their own opinion and it's also fact. This enables them to believe in their own little narrow minds that they can overcome their own lingering doubts and failings, but in fact they never will.

Sometimes it seems the 'herd' believes that the truth can be derived from how easy it is to convince other people, well at least that's how it appears from how the ' herd ' behaves at times.
The consenus building process is a necessary part of social interaction but that's not to say that reality is what's most popular or apparent. What people need to do is think for themselves, compare their own opinions with the rest of the community and try to form a consenus of their own to verify their beliefs or validate them. It can often be found that the truth of the matter is very different to what's evident at the surface. Most people seem to prefer someone else to do their thinking for them when it comes to weighty issues rather than form their own opinion and risk the chance it may be different from how ' the herd ' think. Most of 'the herd' are way too quick to cast aside plausible evidence that their opinion may be wrong and don't give that evidence the logic or due process it deserves.

Often when you get a group of men together they feed off the loud mouthed brash type, but as we know, get them on their own and delve into their own 'secrets' then it often becomes another complete different story.

Revel in the fact that you know you have something good which is a part of you, which not only brings you happiness and comfort but enables you to have an open mind and see the goodness in other people and also enables you to see the world as it really is, not as others would like it to be and this is something which 'the herd' is not prepared to see. It's their loss that they'll never know the whole you.

I like it.

I often refer also to herd mentality as being mass psychology. It's an ancient phenomenon but it's also something which seems to be encoded in most animals. But this mentality has been responsible for so many of our people being badly injured or killed over the years, right down to so many of us just being ostracised. People tend to feel more comfortable en masse and doing things together as a 'herd' or 'flock'. The voices get louder the actions get bolder etc. Mass psychology or herd mentality is really nothing more than group behaviour whereby the masses feel more comfortable doing or saying something simply because they can draw comfort and feed from the fact that everyone around them is saying or doing the same thing, be it right or wrong.

The masses gain strength from each other and together they create this same morbid interest in other people and their doings, their privacies, their dirty linen, always this air of alertness for personal happenings. Always this subtle criticism and appraisel of other people, this analysis of other peoples motives. If anatomy presupposes a corpse, then psychology presupposes a world of corpses. Personalities which means personal criticism and analysis, presuppose a whole world laboratory of human psyches.

"Herd mentality"? I think we have another clinical term for this: GroupThink. It is definitely paralyzing.

Manifestations of GroupThink and intolerance abound. For example, government, in it's quest for power and control, seeks to regulate and enforce sameness. Why else do we have such bitterly devisive wars over topics like abortion, same-sex marriage, freedom of religion/separation of Church and State? Governments seem to thrive on this. Why else would we have politicians setting "speed limits" when any rational thinking person can see that the "maximum safe speed for conditions" is a personal judgement call?

Governments pick and choose the minorities they want to oppress very carefully. It isn't politically correct to oppress those of a particular nationality, race, or Middle Eastern religion. But it is open season on smokers, left handed individuals, crossdressers, private pilots, those who might be helped by stem-cell research, libertarians, those who benefit medically from marijuana, the unemployed, "speeders", the suffering hospice patients not allowed to end their own lives, etc.

We have whole states voting constitutional amendments to ban same-sex marriage. In Kansas, the new slogan for the department of tourism says "Kansas, as big as you think", while bumper stickers are now appearing which read "Kansas: as bigoted as you think". I think I'll get one. But I digressed. Sorry.

The majority rules. Sounds good, doesn't it? It isn't always.

One size does not fit all. Zero tolerence equals zero intelligence.
