pierced ears
I debated on where to put this for me. I thought about putting it in the "I bought something new" thread. But are a set of holes purchasing something new. And i know that i did get a set of starter studs to fill the holes, but the point is the holes.
I thought maybe in the "Fun Stuff While CDing" , but i did not get them while CD. And I am not CDed most of the time.
So i guess here is my Fashion statement:
I got my ears pierced with much encourgement from my wife and with my wife and kids with me. I got them done at an Icing by Claires. My daughter had hers done last week also, and got mine done on friday. The person that did my daughters also did mine. She remembered my daughter right away and asked who she was doing today. I said me. She seemed surprised, but went right at getting it done. My wife seems to really like them, my daughter thinks this is really fun having both of ours done and makes sure i am cleaning them, and my son is acting a bit unsure about what to think about it.
I ended up getting little violet/purple colored studs. But they are so small it is hard to see any color in them.
And it is time for me to go clean them.

Good for you!
After 11 years of having my left ear pierced, I finally did my right ear about 3 weeks ago, also at Icing! As with many things of my female persona, i've noticed it makes me a little more...dunno...proud of my appearance. Definitely follow the instructions, though! Perhaps you should point out to your son that many straight men have both ears pierced now, just as men and not women wore tights back in the day.
Again congrats on another 'step' -
Besides, it makes things easier when you dress instead of those bulky clip-ons!
Much Love!

Hi Kimberly,
Good for you!
I still haven't had my ears pierced. I think it boils down to work for me. What I mean is, after much introspection, I credit my lack of motivation about this to do with me not wanting to fib about why I had it done as much as it has to do with me not wanting more attention that I get now.
I respect you doing this and that you made it a family event.

Way to go Kimberly,
What is the old saying, "The family that pierces together, stays together!"
Well somethng like that, anyway, congratulations.
As for me, I am too old fashioned I guess. The Good Lord, SHE gave me just so many holes in this body and I just can't see adding anymore to it, so I guess I will continue to suffer with the clip ons!
Love,
Virginia

Thanks for the replies gurlz.
I have received only limited comments from co-workers and others and nothing has been bad. Most of the comments have been just acknowleagement that i had them and nothing else. Some do not even notice until someone says something, and then it is usually just a "well yes he does have them, i did not notice".
It is not big deal for a guy to have earings in most cases any more.
I have had the "I did not know you were the earing wearing type" comment. But what is the earing wearing type???? Any more i see people from jock types to lawyer types, nerds to cowboys, and everying in between wearing them. So what type does not wear earings?? It seems more like a personal thing than a type of person type thing.
I have had also the " why did you get them pierced" and "the why did you get them pierced now at this age" and my reponse was "just because".
I also have ready "mid life crisses", "wild hair", and "my daughter got hers done so thought i would also", and "why are yours not pierced" for answers to other possible questions.
Now if I can just leave my hands away from my ears as i keep bumping and pulling on them by accident because i forget that they are in.

Congratulations Kimberly.
When I visited my mom in the hospital, the first thing she asked was why I hadn't pierced my ears yet.
My wife couldn't believe she even asked me that.
The 56 yr old son of the lady in the next bed has his ears pierced, and my wife asked me if I thought he was CD. I had to explain, again, that all kinds of people have them pierced.

Better late than never. I got both my ears pierced about 6 years ago and wondered why I waited so long. When I was younger, my concerns about what others would think preoccupied my mind most of the time and kept me from doing anything what I really wanted.
In my case, my wife had talked about getting a tattoo for some time and one day said she was finally going to do it. (Of course I knew she would -
) I dared her not too saying if she did I would get my ears pierced. (Those of you who read my new member intro will know that she didn't know about Stephanie at this time). Anyway, she jokingly said 'you wouldn't dare'. Well, who can pass up such an opportunity? Not me! Luckily, it also coincided with a two week vacation from work so the day she went out to get her tattoo, I got my ears pierced. She couldn't believe it when she got home. She was cool though.
So I had a couple of weeks to get used to it before going back to work and decided that I would take them out when I went back as I didn't plan to wear them 24/7. Anyway, after 2 weeks, I got so used to them and wanted to keep them in but what would they say at work? Finally, as I approached the doors, I said, 'to heck with it. Let's get this over with and in a couple of days, I'm sure I'll be old news". It was quite an eventful first day back but soon people got used to it and that was it. Yep, a few comments about 'why?, I can see guys getting one pierced, but not two, to some lovely compliments from the ladies that they really suited me. So you never know. I've worn them ever since..... saving only my pretty feminine ones for going out.

Thanks Gracie. I think a lot depends on the kind of environment you work in and the type of folks around you. Luckily for me, I don't work in a place with the kinds of people who would be intolerant of someone a little different. Only you can assess your own situation and what you can live/work with. I should say that I'm not out in the sense that anyone suspects anything beyond my occasional eclectic tastes. Sure, they may wonder about me, but stirring one's imagination can sometimes lead to some interesting conversation. It's also a good opportunity to learn much more about people than you normally would and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I remember in my prep to getting them pierced, I read a lot of advice on ways to do it surreptitiously such as using a very small amount of clear fishing line through the hole during your work day. I did have that at the ready with every intention of using it but as you know from my story, I never did. But it is an option if you ever need it.
If you do get the courage to get your ears pierced someday, you'll wish you did it sooner. Believe me, clip-ons really are not as comfortable as the real thing.

I just had my left ear pierced. I'm going to wait 2 or three weeks and get the other one done. My wife said I could do it when I asked her, so I did. I am covering the stud with a bandaid and I hope people won't notice. I won't wear them 24/7 after they heal, I'll put something less conspicuous in like fishing line or plastic.

Stephanie great story. So true about once they are there they are just part of us.
It has just been over 2 months for me. The only problems i had is i had my diamond studs in and was going to do some painting and forgot to put them in until the next day. Within that 24 hours they started to close on me and needed to push it through.
The worst that I have had said to me is:
Why? I answer why not. And if that does not work, I thought all nerds had their ears pierced. But i want to scream.... I AM A CDER.
My brother said "What the blep, bleeppy, bleeeeeep, bleep, bleep did you do that for" and I found out my Dad said the same to my Mom but nothing to me.
My boss said it was hard for him to get use to them being he had known me so many years without them. Some people in the office never even knew until they were told by someone else, even though i had been talking with them before they were told.
Why Both? I say why just one.
My wife has been asked by several people why, and she just says they need to as me... and none of them have yet.
My daughters friends are like, Neat, cool dad, and one my dad is not cool enought to do that...

KimberlyS,
Did you read my mind? That was exactly the same experience I had when I had my ears pierced for my birthday several years ago. I am now 63 and I hear no comments about my pierced ears.
The difference is that I have no daughters.
Go for it ladies. Get them pierced!
Hugs, Paige
