Maid service
Hi all,
I know the subject of maid uniforms came up somewhere on the board. But I'd like to delve a little deeper, beyond the clothing, so to speak.
I know for a fact that many of my sisters tend to exhibit subservient traits when en femme. I'm a little bit submissive myself. And this is, precisely, what I have a problem with. What does it say about me that I picture (not exclusively, but often enough) a feminine social role in the context of subservience and submission? Those of you that know me by now also know that my views are very much aligned along feminist/humanist lines; how can it be that I'd even consider maid service appropriate for anyone at all? Is it merely a matter of fantasy? Relinquishing the "power" and "status" that comes with being male in this world just to take a break from it all? If it is mere fantasy, is it sexual fantasy or social fantasy? All this has me very puzzled.
I've performed maid duty for one of my SOs before. It was a lot of fun--for a while. After several months, though, I began to feel caged, or as though I were choking; yet, my SO was relentless. This "power struggle" eventually led to our breakup (well, it was one of the main reasons, anyway). Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed serving and pleasing and paying such focused attention to this woman, but I felt that our relationship had become ritualized and formalized, because of the introduction of these elements of power, control, and subservience into our lives.
Since then, I seem to have incorporated some of that "training" into my boy mode behaviour; you'll never see me gripe at having to do chores such as dishes and laundry and cleaning house. In fact, these are pleasant, meditative activities for me. Yet the puzzle remains. Do I really believe, deep down inside, that this is really "women's work"? No, I truly don't think so. Why, then, the desire to serve as a maid? It seems that, no matter how much I adjust my lacy thinking cap, I just can't get my head around this one... Help! Any comments?
Love,
CJ

For me the maid uniform is very sexy. I guess it's a sexual thing for me. Some of my earliest memories of the french maids were short cigar style uniforms. I guess that since I own a couple I feel sexy when I wear them. When I'm dressed as a man I can't every feeling sexy.
I am what I am, and that's all that I am.

CJ, that's an intriguing question. Certainly, the maid role suggests submission to power, and that has its allures, at least at first. Like you, I not only do many household chores, but find them relaxing in a way. And I love to cook and prepare wonderful meals and to entertain--tasks normally associated with "women's work." (But then again, I get the same meditative high from shoveling snow, so what's that mean?) I guess I'm somewhat submissive, then, but I know plenty of men who, as far as I know are not crossdressers, but who are the more submissive partner in their relationships with their wives.
I've never had a maid's uniform nor a desire for one, but like Charlene feel a lot more sexy dressed as a woman than in drab, particularly in a short skirt--and that suggest to me that I've bought into the marketing vision of what makes an attractive woman just as many women and girls have. But I think the role playing (within our role playing. I'll get lost here in a minute
) is something different.
One of the things about the maid role, as least in the context I'm thinking of and the one I think you mean, is that it is actually a power reversal--the sexy young maid seducing the old geezer master right under the mistress's roof. But that doesn't explain a longer term dominant/submissive relationship.
Your clear respect for women and humanity belies the idea that you were equating the feminine role as a submissive one. Rather, perhaps it was a combination of your exploring your own identity, along with a genuine desire to please this woman, which she either misunderstood as a wish to submit or one that she took advantage of, enjoying the chance to have a dominant role herself.
All right, enough of that, I'm starting to sound like a shrink here, and my speculation is worth exactly what you paid for it. More generally, though, the question remains an intriguing one. I'd like to hear what others have to say.

Sara

Hi Sara,
Thanks for your thoughtful and engaging reply. And, yes, your input is valuable. This is something that really does trouble me. I'd like to find out what others think too.
Charlene, of course I feel sexy too when I wear a maid's uniform, although I've never owned a "traditional" maid's uniform--the one I was made to wear was almost like a cream-coloured, satin wraparound apron with miles of ruffled lace at the hem and cuffs. Cute, but no cigar.
Love,
CJ

Well I own a maid uniform and all except for the bonnet or what ever they wear on there head (I have no idea why they do) for me it was the first major female direct clothing I had bought. I did not really think of it whether or it was female or not just that I had only seen females wear such clothing and liked it. Since then however I have added it to my closet with other dresses as such. Still it hangs there with the rest of the clothing just another reminder of what is designed for (originally) for women.

Hi,
I guess I'm mainly drawn to the feeling of the clothing and the maid fantasy. I like to play at it for short periods of time ( a few hours at most).
I'm sitting here at the computer in my makeshift maid outfit - no lace cap or bonnet, but an above the knee dress, white lace apron, white lace from my petticoat peeking out from under the hem, support stockings held up by the garters on my corset, longline bra cups stuffed to the max with rice filled knee highs.
I just loved the look of maid outfits and get to live a little of the fantasy when I put it on. My wife initially suggested this dress, then I recently added the petticoat and corset.
My wife once in a while plays along a bit and orders me to get her a cup of tea. "The maid" also sometimes gathers the clean laundry hanging in the cellar (love the sound of heels on the concrete floor!), brings it upstairs, folds it and puts it away. My male self rarely puts away the laundry.
Once when there was a lot to move around and set up in the computer room, and it didn't seem to be as much of a chore when I did it as the maid. The only downside was when I started rebuilding a computer with the chassis sitting on a chair. I wasn't careful enough and put a run in one of my support stockings.
I hope some of this might answer the question.

Hi everyone, I would like to weight in on the subject only taking a little different look at it.
I don't own a maids outfit but have always wanted one as to me it is a sex item (my opinion) . But as far as a submission thing with the chorse around the house I do them glady
. The reason is my wife is handycapped and spends a lot of time in a wheelchair and she really can not do most of it. So Carol Ann becomes the cleaning maid,
I wear what ever a women would wear to mop, dishes, vaccume, and the dirty cloths. My wife has great love for Carol Ann as I for her, but my crossdressing is just second nature to us both.
Funny thing is she never knows who she will be with Carol Ann or her drab husbant
. Now she did say one time I will have and outfit made for you as my maid you should look the part
a pun on her part. I can not see me doing housework in heels in one of those outfits, just doesn't seem to fit in
.
Oh well so much for my views.

Due to popular request, from the petticoat thread:
I bought my knee length petticoat online from a square dance apparal store in the state of Washington called Petticoat Junction (gee, I wonder what they specialize in
)
here is the url where the petticoats are located:
http://www.petticoatjct.com/merchant2/m ... y_Code=PET
I bought the style 580 in medium (22 inch) length. They list several others that are longer. I thought my credit card purchase was handled well and I received my petticoat in just a few days - not bad considering that I'm on the other side of the US, near Buffalo, NY.
Details on Malco Modes petticoats can be found on their website at
http://www.malcomodes.biz/
They don't sell retail on their website, but they do have a link to retailers at
http://www.malcomodes.biz/retailers.html
For French maids, there are a couple of short petticoats available intended for girls, but who says they couldn't also be used by bigger girls dressing as French maids?
Here is the URL for girls petticoats:
http://www.malcomodes.biz/square.pc3.html
They also make pettipants. I think if I were going to be dressed as a French maid with a very short pouffed out skirt and petticoats, those are the kind of panties I would want to wear to make the view memorable
here is the url for Malco Modes pettipants:
http://www.malcomodes.biz/square.pp.html
I have no affiliation with any of the vendors/merchants I mentioned above.
