The PORES The Pores
I have a question that I was wondering if everyone could help me with or suggest. As the ths subject suggests, I have large pores on my face and I have heard that when using makeup that is not good. Does any one have a way for making them smaller.

Hi Jessie,
Well, I'm no expert on the matter, but I know that there are beauty products available out there called astringents and toners. They help reduce the size of your pores by, essentially, "sucking" them dry and "puffing" up the skin around them. If you're on a tight budget, quarter-inch thick slices of cucumber applied to your face have much the same effect. They also, and by the same astringent effect, reduce and smooth away wrinkles to some extent. Orange peels work too--careful of your eyes, though.
Check out the "Skin Care" section of the following site:

Also:
http://www.soyouwanna.com/site/syws/makeup/makeup.html for general makeup application tips.
http://www.geocities.com/thebeautybox/ for more toner info (go to the "Skincare" section).
Love,
CJ (child of a woman who was a makeup expert!)

I think they are still selling them. Yes I have used them once it was rather interesting. It felt like taking a band-aid off my nose. I have also used a face mask a time or two. The face mask was odd as I have posted many a time I refuse to shave my goatee. Using a mask with a beard is trip because no matter how hard you try you cannot keep it out of the hairs.

Hi Beauty,
Yes, during the 70s she worked for several years as a travelling representative and beauty consultant for Revlon. I used to go and say hi to her whenever she was "stationed" here in Montreal (at the Bay's, a large retail chain). I still have her company photos from that era. She was a knockout, if I do say so m'self!
Of course, I used to play with her "stash" (both clothing and cosmetics)whenever, as a teenager, I spent a day or two at her place (and whenever the opportunity to do so presented itself). Lately, she's shown me some of the stuff she'd learned as a consultant (and even made me up a few times). She gave me most of her cosmetics when she moved back west two years ago.
Love,
CJ

Cool!!!
Soooo can you be like our resident makeup advice gal?
Confession . . . I soooo have a batrillion questions about doing eye makeup.
I stink at it. I was going to get lessons from a local makeup artist, but now she's moving to Florida.

I'm afraid that my own knowledge of cosmetics and makeup techniques isn't as extensive as my mom's is. So I don't know how helpful I could be...
The difficulty with cosmetics is that the male face requires care and application techniques that can be very different from those a woman's face requires. I have little experience, for example, with beard covers. I promise I'll look into it, okay?
Of course, if any of you gals out there (both TG and GG) have any inclinations to participate in a cosmetics advice thread, let us know, eh?
Love,
CJ

Hi Christina,
Your post was like a roller coaster. YYAAAY.. awwwww.. YAAAAAY..... awwwww.. YAAAY!!
I have to rate that reading ride a solid 10!!!!

Hellooo? Your mom was a makeup artist?
It's in the genes kiddo.. it's in . . . the genes.
(add another cool feather to the Christina cap)
I think anything you could offer would be great and though others may add to what you have, can you be the lead for now? It's not like you're getting paid so I understand if you go, "Lead?!?"
The skin care is just as important as the makeup, so anything you can offer would be awesome!
Nikki's Intimates, Christina's Makeup Corner, Jadeanne's What Are You Wearing . . . and more! I think I've died and gone to board heaven.
Thank you Christina and to everyone who is just making Shannon and Sharon(SO)'s creation the best board on the web. One that others should duplicate . . . if they can.

Hi Beauty,
Okay, okay, you've got me charged now!
Let me look into it a little bit and I'll see if I can come up with something interesting. You know, Beauty, this may just increase the frequency of my e-mail exchanges with my mother (which would probably be a good thing, according to her
). I'll let you all know soon.
And, yes, this girl has always wanted to play the lead...
Love,
CJ

Christina,
On my new years list is learning more about and using makeup. I know I would learn a lot from your makeup and skin care advice. My wife doesn't use makeup, and I need LOTS of help.
Beauty,
Thank you for the kind words on the What Are You Wearing thread. You are doing a great job as moderator, helping make this forum a welcome place to visit, read and post.

I learned about makeup from a number of sources. The first and most private "place" was I bought JoAnn Roberts' book Art and Illusion: A Guide to Crossdressing, Vol. 1, Face & Hair. I found it very, very helpful. I also got a lot of help from the Merle Noman ladies over the years as well as a Mary Kay lady.
