Am I odd one out?
My new found happiness is working very well, but I'm beginning to think I'm the only CD out there who loves beautiful flowing gowns and skirts. Its just me, I dont go for short skirts or dresses. I've been to Celestes transition house in Melbourne and I'm the only one there that wears long flowing gowns and dresses. Are there different sorts of CDs? or Am I just plain different from the others? Its just that I'm so happy in my skin at the moment all I do is buy long flowing dresses, I even have 2 dresses being made for me, at the moment, Am I Gown crazy? I Dont hear many other CDs talk about gowns either, does'nt anyone else appreciate the flowing soft feel of gorgous satin, silk and chiffon.

Well first off Sheena.
I hope you are unique, and I hope that does not scare you. I don’t think there are two of us exactly alike, and if I happened to be one who was, that would scare the crap out of me. I would look for a way to be different.
I like wearing long dresses but not all the time I enjoy a variety of all lengths. I don't like them so long that they trail on the floor.

Whew, that's out there Sheena
NOT
I like gowns too, but only for special occasions. Some I really would like to try are at http://www.gownsbysimpleelegance.com/page/SE/CTGY/1b
But liking something and thinking practical, it ain't gonna happen.

Hi Sheena,
Maybe it's because we kept part of ourselves in the closet we started feeling pressure and relief that we are alone or unique in what we wear, but I assure you if you're doing it others are too.
Like Darlene mentioned, even if you do find others who wear them you'll still be unique because there's only one of you.
So no, you're not alone, it's just that no one is talking about it. Maybe your post will inspire others. I know of several gals who only wore gowns. One of the people used to be a poster here.

Sheena,
I like long gowns, dresses, and skirts and have several that I wear fairly often. I also like shorter skirts, and when I dress femme (around the house only) my clothing depends on my mood at the time.
Thrift stores are my favorite hunting ground for femme formal and special occasion wear. I like the less revealing, older styles and do find them.
I wear other styles, too, but I do enjoy my bridesmaid and mother of the bride dresses.

If you're crazy, I'm over the edge
All I can say is look at my avatar - you're not the only one. Never plan to go out to the mall dressed as I like, so it doesn't matter. It's a glorious feeling being ultra-femme.

Dressing correctly for the situation or event is very special for me. For the most part, I enjoy the comfort of styles that do not include pants or shorts.... I can wear them at any time. A nice long skirt in a floral pattern is my usual choice. I at times enjoy something in poka dot / white dots on black. To me, long dresses are a gret projection of the femal form and I enjoy the boost that it gives me whenever I dress in a long dress.
Hope you continue to enjoy your projection of your view of yourself.

I have one long party dress that I really like. I suppose with unlimited funds and wardrobe space I would have more. I really like long skirts and the way they wrap around my legs. But I am too casual for a lot of formal gowns.
One of my current favorite ensembles is a peasant skirt with guy teeshirt. And appropriate underwear of course.

Personally I prefer longer dresses and skirts because of my height. They tend to hide some of the fact that I am 6ft tall. Of course it is just an illusion but it does help. For the same reason I tend to wear shorter heals rather than taller ones. But, I am just as comfortable in a pair of short, shorts and a tshirt, it just all depends on the situation and the activities of the day. The type of skirts that I prefer are actually the ones that resemble the style of the fifties and sixties. The type you would expect to see in a Marylin Monroe movie. For me that style just hits the mark.
I really think that style all depends on the individual and what each person likes or finds comfortable. Maybe I am unique, I like to think so anyway. That is what makes me special and fills my day with hope for the future.

Sheena,
You may be in a minority, but you are not the only one who loves long, flowing gowns in satin, silk and chiffon.
I also love the look and feel of longer gowns, as well as full skirts with lots of petticoats underneath. As the saying goes, about art, "I know what I like". I wear the styles I like, and have no desire to go out (imagine shopping in a satin and chiffon floor -length gown!)
So I dress at home, and enjoy it immensely.
But it's nice to know there are others who also like the look and feel of beautiful (if impractical) frocks.

Sheena,
We need to distinguish between gowns and long dresses and long skirts! If you go out in public, you want to dress appropriately, i.e., no mini-skirts when it 10 below zero nor do you want to wear a "ball- gown" out in public. However if your are going to a formal affair where "gowns" are the accepted method of appearance - go for it!!! Also, as one of my sisters pointed out, if you are a closet CD - and there is nothing wrong with that - and you love to dress formal at home go for it!!!!!

Sheena, your not alone. Kerri is here to join you on the podium!
I devoted my life to Ball Gowns at one time. I hired, bought, lived and breathed Ball Gowns its all I was interested in ..........
While I was in the closet.
But then when I lost my fear of the public and open public spaces, I had to learn to dress in a manner appropriate to the situation.
But I still listen to Straus wearing my ball gown and dream of being in a Vienna waltz.
Kerri
PS I like minikilts too.
